I have not done an auto build for a while....many reasons and other interests

This Porsche 911 is a 1/24 scale from eBay a few years ago. My joke is it was only $6.... and $14 in shipping.

End of March I decided it was time to pull it out of its plastic bag and bring it back to life

Been so long I have forgotten how to post photos and navigate posts here...but I will make due.

This should be all the before photos attatched now. Oh yeah, it was a Monogram kit, mid 80ish Porsche turbo convertible slant nose. Missing the rear deck and spoiler

This is what really got me going...some Fujimi 19" BBS mags and tires I popped on. Once  I saw that, it was THIS is now a project. Fujimi makes some really great wheel and tire combos btw

Interior goes for a dip into the lemon scent oven cleaner gel

Cool. Still making it into a targa ?

We shall see how that goes, don't wanna get too far ahead of myself

It is a little/big project if you catch my drift...and inspired by your build thread for sure

Next the car body goes for a soak and then peel off. Paint was very thick with clear coat overtop and what looks like auto body primer underneath

Causulties included cutting off the windshield frame before it got destroyed and I broke driver's mirror.

You can see the thick paint, I just got a tool under there and peeled it off. Next step is a media blasting with a micro etcher to remove primer and any more paint.

Wheels look great.  I have extra mirrors if neede.

Thanks Andre....I will salvage the one I broke

Were the mirrors on your kit moulded on or cemented??

For me, wheels make or break a car

That s a lot of work going there. I have a Porsche 911 that I should re-build that I built back in the 90's. The paint job on it is less than stellar, and I believe that I have most of the parts. Your work is tempting me.

I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks Ron, will try

The micro etcher thing is a HUGE help.....it is actually pretty fun to watch that paint just peel right off. Heck of a mess though

Got the engine and transmission out and soaked in the oven cleaner. The chrome on the engine block and parts literally melted away almost immediately. The black painted area took just a couple hours.

There was a lot of yellow cement present and thankfully most weakened and let parts come off and/or scraped away easily

Thank you, it has been a bit of work for sure

We  shall see how happy I am with it when I get the first bit of primer on

It feels pretty smooth, but you know how that goes

Tried a silicone mould and resin cast of a Fujimi kit's rear engine cover and spoiler to try and replace the missing one from my kit. First time I have tried this.

Last pic is the rough fitment with lots to trim, add to and refine, but this should be workable

Cool work on the casting.  That's cool

Thanks bud :D

Got inspired as I could not find a replacement engine cover/wing on eBay so decided to use some stuff from work and give it a go. That is a dental acrylic resin wing

Have lots of flash and mis cast areas to smooth out, but is a better start than full on scratch building the wing.

I will do another photo when I am happy with it.

Spent some time with the Porsche this afternoon

Putting the engine block and transmission back together

Used a combo of Tamiya flat aluminum and Gunze aluminum...just to try for subtle shade variations. Then a wash with Mig dark wash and some Ammo engine oil

Nice work so far. Love the use of dental products; makes this hobby much easier! May I ask what exactly what resin it was? I've contemplated that but wasn't sure if I could get it to flow far enough into a mold.

I may have to order some in.

Cheers,

Michael

Thank you. Sorry again about those enormous photos

That specific material is Structur 2 SC by Voco... a self curing composite material for crown and bridge.

It is an auto mix syringe type delivery so allows you to squirt right into a channel in the mould.... vs spatula mixing which dentistry has moved away from in many cases

The products are not cheap, but are readily available to me, so I used what I have. Worked OK ish
