Johnt671 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 I bought a set of decals to do a Haydon Proffitt drag car before I found out it was a Bel Air with two tail lights instead of the three on an Impala. Anyone know if a resin caster makes a Bel Air rear panel or will I have to try and fill in one of the rear lights to make it accurate? I recall see a kit for Haydens car but the last thing I need for a while is another kit. Thanks.
Rob Hall Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 (edited) Why not use the AMT 62 Bel Air kit? That would give you the correct body, interior, etc. AMT did a Hayden Proffitt version of that kit. There are too many differences between an Impala and a Bel Air to start w the Revell Impala. Edited April 21, 2017 by Rob Hall

While I like the 62 Chevy, I don't like it enough to build two of them. But you gave me the idea of trading mine for a Bel Air. I painted the Impala a nice Dupli-color Flame Red in the fall but if I can't get the tail piece I'll post it in the trade section.
Rob Hall Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 There are many more differences than the tail panel, though. The Bel Air roof is different, interior, side trim, etc.
Brett Barrow Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 (edited) To illustrate: Impala hardtop (new for GM '62, simulated look of convertible up-top) Bel Air (aka Bubbletop): Impala (bucket seats in an SS, regular Impala had bench w/ same pattern) Bel Air: Impala (on SS the tail panel would be engine-turned) Bel Air (IIRC AMT's is actually more like a Biscayne); Edited April 21, 2017 by Brett Barrow
Johnt671 Posted April 21, 2017 Author Posted April 21, 2017 Thanks for showing the differences. I'm going to try doing a swap.
Johnt671 Posted April 22, 2017 Author Posted April 22, 2017 I bought the Proffitt Bel Air on E-Bay, maybe I can use some of the parts from the Impala to build a more detailed car.
