bugman9317 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I am working on a Dodge Coronet R/T and got the photo etch set from Model Car Garage to go with it. What I am running to problems with is how I should get the red letters onto the photo etch. I am not sure if I should use the decals that came with the set and try to place them onto the photo etch or should I paint the photo etch red first and then spray black on top and wipe the letters off with thinner to get them to come through. Any help would be appriciated.
935k3 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 You have the right idea. Paint the letters red with a lacquer. Then paint the letters with Tamiya X18 Acrylic(jar). Then wipe off the top of the letters with ammonia. Ammonia will not effect the lacquer underneath. This will work far better if you can airbrush it. Finding a water based acrylic in a spray can is hard to find. None of the hobby paints come that way.
bugman9317 Posted May 29, 2017 Author Posted May 29, 2017 Thanks 935k3.. I have a red lacquer already but I will have to order some Tamiya X18.. This might sound like a dumb question, but I have only worked with enamels/laquers and thinners.. Do I just clean my airbrush with water after using the acrylic?
eastown Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I mostly clean my airbrush after using acrylic paints with some ammonia mixed with a bit washer fluid or windex.
