59 Impala Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 I'm building this with the Ala Kart chassis and grill. I had to modify the underneath part of the fender assembly so the chassis would fit. I also modified the grill to fit the 29 fenders. I also had to cut away some of the fenders so the chassis would fit up front. I'm using the wheels from some that a friend of mine gave me. I forget which kit they came from. Still a lot of work to be done. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 Well, before I can go forward with this I need to come up with the fire wall and windshield/dash for this. I'll be asking the guys in our club if anyone has some spare parts. Dan
59 Impala Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 I have done some work on the chassis so it fits better under the 29's fenders. The front sets a tad bit lower now. Dan
59 Impala Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 I finally got some primer on this car tonight. Here is a pic of it along with some parts for the 50 Ford custom that I'm also working on. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 This is turning out to be a bigger build than I thought. I found a couple of Ala Kart parts that I didn't know I had in the parts box. I had to modify the top and hood to fit the 29 body. I'm also using a 40 Ford dash. I do like the looks of how this is turning out though.
59 Impala Posted December 26, 2017 Author Posted December 26, 2017 A small update on the 29. I had to chop the windshield a scale 11/2 inches to get the top to fit. This is the stance that I'm going for and I still have a lot of work to do. I'm hoping that the 409 will fir under the hood. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 I'm working on getting the 409 to fit. I had to remove some material from the chassis and fender areas so the exhaust would fit without hitting the frame. Also I have to come up with a different spot for the generator or alternator cause either one sticks out past the area for the hood. I might try my buddy Chris's way and put either one under the body and hooked up to the drive shaft. Don't know yet. Dan
59 Impala Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 Got back to this car tonight. I had to modify the frame a tad so that the 409 would fit. More to come. Dan
59 Impala Posted February 25, 2018 Author Posted February 25, 2018 I finally got some color on this and now I have to strip the fenders and re paint. The rear fenders had air bubbles on them and the left one had what looked like wrinkle paint for some reason. Here are a couple pics. I also got the chassis painted with Alclad chrome. Bummer, but that's the way things go sometime. Dan
59 Impala Posted February 27, 2018 Author Posted February 27, 2018 Got a little work done tonight. Still more work to do on the fenders before I can put the color back on. The chassis is done and waiting. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted February 28, 2018 Author Posted February 28, 2018 She's gettin close. It's kinda hard to see but there is two different Gold pearls on this car. The body, hood and grill are Brilliant Yellow and the fenders are Aztec Gold. The body is sprayed over Testors Gold and the fenders were sprayed over Gray. I sprayed Testors one coat clear over everything. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
59 Impala Posted March 1, 2018 Author Posted March 1, 2018 Almost done. I'm waiting for the steering wheel to dry and then I think she's ready to put together. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
alan barton Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 This is a really interesting combination of the Ala Kart with the stock A roadster body, Dan. The gold paint suits it perfectly. When you go to glue the windshield and dash in place, be sure to lay the windshield back a few degrees so that it is a nice match to the roof. The traditionalist in me can't help wondering how such a cool early sixties custom would look with cool early sixties wheels. Wide white walls, with Chromies, or thin whitewalls with Raiders would be interesting alternatives. Cheers Alan
59 Impala Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 Thanks Alan. This has been a good experience for me to combine the Ala Kart parts to the 29. The frame had to be altered along with the bottom of the fender section to get them to go together. Also, the 409 had to have some more work done to the chassis so that it would fit. ai'm leaving the windshield the way it is, mainly because it's glued to the top. Mistake on my part. I did have to chop the windshield a tad to fit the top and I'm using a 40 Ford dash that had to be modified a little to fit the body. More work to be done before she's finished. Dan
59 Impala Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 Got-er-done a few minutes ago. I'll post pics in under glass. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
