Guest zebm1 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) Mark Martin signs a 2-year Contract with Hendrick Motorsports to drive Car #5 for 2 Full-time Seasons in NASCAR Sprint Cup!...So maybe our guy wins a Championship finally? Edited July 6, 2008 by zebm1
Eshaver Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Zeb, uh have to disagree with you. I knew Denny Hamlin when he was in school His mother and I worked briefly together at A A A Virginia then , his dad and I worked next door together for awhile Denny used to help me kepping my %3 Ford going. Yeah I know hes young and all that, but trust me he lives on the edge and thats whats going to make him a contender. Ed Shaver
Guest zebm1 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Ed, they announced it on ESPN2 During Daytona Nationwide Qualifying for tonite's race. Mark Martin has signed a 2 year Contract to drive full-time in '09 and 2010. Dale Jr. just confirmed the Deal.
Eshaver Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 You know, ......I have been doing too much laquer thinner lately! Ed Shaver
Modelmartin Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Seeing Mark Martin ( no relation...drat!) win a championship at this point in his career would be awesome. It's hard to think of someone more deserving. He is still a ###### fine race driver. How long did he lead the series last year in a part time drive? Andy
Jello Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I have always been a great fan of Mark Martin and hoping the 'old man' would win the champ before he retires and I have even collected every single diecast vehicle, T-shirts, decals, coffee cups & model kits of Mark Martin since the Folgers Coffee cars. Now, it looks like hopefully he will finally get a chance to grab the big one! I saw the news this afternoon and thought someone was playing a joke! Its for real and I even remember Jr making a comment about how much he admires the old man 2-3 years ago! I see Martin doing more than just winning races. Thats got to hurt DEI a lot if they couldn't win with the smartest driver in Nascar....but I'am happy to Mark Martin back in the car full-time! Hendricks must have some deeepppp pockets! I gots the feeling that a lot of driver changes are about to happen soon! Silly season! ~ Jeff
Guest zebm1 Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 (edited) Kyle Busch is turning into a Fat Tony Clone...... all mouth, I don't bump no-one outa my way, uh-uh, nope, no-way....it's tha other guys (I'm tha Points Leader, git tha "Blank" out of my way...comin' thru).......... Edited July 6, 2008 by zebm1
crispy Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I hate to say this but. I am definitely not a fan of Kyle Bush, downright dislike him. However, with that said, he definitely has some talent. He needs to grow up and learn respect. I fear a big accident with him is the only way he'll learn. Can't deny the talent though. Chris
Jello Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I'am not fond of baby Kyle either and those Toyotas but I do love M&Ms! If he never gets into the big one ( accident), just think how good he will be in 5 years!?! All dem young drivers think they brave til they roll the car a dozen times & flipping it front & back another dozen times...then after that, they get back in line... Maybe Mark Martin will show him a few driving 'lessons' next year eh? I'am ready for next year now! ~ Jeff
Guest zebm1 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 To quote ol' D.W. at the 2000 Pocono Race, "If you live by the sword, you shall die by the sword." When Dale Sr. got tha Chrome Horn in the last lap of that race. As I remember it, Dale Sr. was not exhalted until after he commercialized his Name. Prior to that he was known and regularly badmouthed as a "Dirty Driver." As far as Kyle Busch is concerned, as we saw at the recent New Hampshire Race, Kyle keeps nerfing to win, he'd better remember there are other young guns on that race track too......there's more parity on the tracks now, thanks to NASCAR's Rules. It's getting pretty bad out there when even his older brother is P.O'd at him.
Nick F40 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I know, I sweared to NOT even look at this but I had too, especially on the subject matter of Kyle. Kyle Busch. Like him or not, he's finally gotten with a team that can showcase his talent. The team he drove for last year is the #5 car, & as mentioned they are 23rd in oints with zero wins. The guy that drove the #18 car last year is currently 36th in points & has missed 3 races so far, In fact last year the #18 car was itself in danger of falling out of the top 35 in owners points & thus losing a guaranteed spot in the lineup. Kyle has turned that once floundering team 180 degrees around & got them back on top. As someone that's followed Nascar avidly for 40 years now, I find it ironic that a "dirty" driver like Dale Sr is exalted by many, while a "dirty" driver like Kyle is bashed or disliked. Trust me on this; based purely on talent, not personality, likeability, etc., Kyle Busch is the best pure driver Nascar has seen since the late Tim Richmond, & he's not even at his peak yet. Like Richmond he is mercurial, & needed the right chemistry to let his talents & abilities shine fully. DING DING DING DING DING SOMEONE SHOULD GIVE YOU A BIG PRIZE!!! EXACTLY what I say, now how does this incident change why is it deifferent????? Tell me people??? Why can't Kyle spin out Jr. like that but daddy could?? Huh????? And second, Toyota, now question for yous...you consider a car that's made in America, here, American right? ok, is that why they're made in Alabama? Mississippi? Kentucky? West Virginia? Indiana? Texas? sorry they're MADE in America and only the JDM specs are actually in Japan. And for the other "american" companies, yeah also in Mexico, Switzerland, Canada, Middle East, Asia, and a good bit of Europe and the thing about Latin America is that they were BUILT there for over 80 yeas! AND CHEVROLET IS FRENCH!!!! They were based from Detroit and Toyota is in six US cities now, HMMMMM Ok it originally wasn't an American company but the regulations in NANSCAR nowadys, they look like generic blobs, oh what they are....have the SAME aero kits, the SAME equipment, they use stickers as emblems, they have set templates for the "bodies" and they are all the same, EXCEPT for the indents and engravings for the headlights and as for the engines, the marques DEVELOP them but don't build them so that is really the only excuse you can give for the marques ACTUALLY competing against each other.
Draggon Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Did anyone else notice the "commercialization" of that "race"? Geez, it was like a never ending sponsor-thon. My son rarely watches nascar, and had asked me awhile back what that green-white-checkers thing meant. So he asks me "why do they all end like that?"..well, son, ya see, that just nascar. Yikes. Sooooooooo, the complaints out of the way, the best part of the night was watching you-know-who getting booed. Yeah, thats good ol' saturday nite racing!

Harold Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Hey, I was just happy when Gordon tried to hold off Edwards and went from second to thirty- first. Had it not been for the final caution, Carl may have been in Victory Lane. Mark is right, though- the car Martin will be stepping into next year is not destined for greatness anytime soon. Remember, since Tim Richmond, nobody at Hendrick was able to do anything with the #25 team, and they had some decent pilots- Craven, Schrader, Nemechek, Busch. The #5 hasn't done anything since Terry Labonte was in it, and I'm sure Hendrick hasn't given Mears the attention he needs to win because everything in terms of money and resources over the last few years went to Johnson and Gordon.
