BigPoppa Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I got my first one, a built up 71 and was disappointed to see it had the one peice chassis/suspension. Were all of them like that? Any suggestions for a more detailed donor? Anybody got a scan of the instruction sheet? thanks!
James W Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I am no expert, (stop reading now) but the full size Vega shared the same floor pan with the Monza. MPC had some well detailed chassis back in the 70's which is the last time a Monza kit held a place on the store shelves. Expect to modify the wheelbase a bit. Do not buy a Revell Monza. Good luck!
Jairus Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Yes, that was normal for that period of kit to have a flat floorpan with crappy details and metal axles. James is right, use the MPC Monza kit as a starting point but do your homework by picking up a repair manual on eBay or something for all the correct details. I never start a model project unless I can lay my hands on some details of the engine compartment, interior and suspension. Good Luck!
Guest zebm1 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Isn't there a resin guy who is making a Vega trans-kit or a almost complete kit.....I know I saw one somewhere while websurfing. Part two--- I knew it, found them thru Rocketfin.com..... Competition Resins (www.compresins.com) has two Pro Stock Vega kits: 72-73 and 74-75. R&R Resins (http://resinrealm.net/RRGallery/index.html) this page downloads a Star Models Price list in Adobe, go to Star Models link, but their gallery is under construction...but they are supposed to also have a 1972 Vega Coupe Pro Stock. If yu go check out Star Models Gallery, all of their kits have chassis, interiors, windows and chrome. They have lots of Station wagons.....and I'm now drooling, they have a '57 Buick 2 dr hdtp. Roadmaster/Rivera.......
Jairus Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 After doing some checking around I found out that the MPC Monza chassis is sadly just as simplistic as the Vega and not a good source for suspension parts. Mr. Matson suggests the resin web sites and checking those turns up much the same response. Comp Resin only casts bodies and R&R has the same chassis piece as the kit Vega kit. Now the good news... Revell has a Chevy Monza kit called SUPER SPYDER in the version I looked at which contains separate suspension components. That would be the version I would look for. Remember the Chevy Monza came out in '76, was based on the Vega platform and replaced the Vega. That is all.....
