bubbaman Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 hello - i have the 51 CHEVY SUN CRUISER CONV. BY AMT and there is a lot of extra plastic on the body lines - how do i remove the extra plastic with out ruining the body and scratching it all up what grit do i use ??
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Either carefully scraping with an X-Acto, or using small files. You want to get all the flash and out of register lines gone before using sandpaper. Otherwise, as you suspect, you WILL get scratches in lotsa places you don't want them. And try to not use anything coarser than 400 grit paper on plastic if you can help it. Anything much coarser is the very devil to fill with primer.
High octane Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 You can put masking tape over the mold lines you don't want to sand and use 600 grit to clean up the body before your primer coats.
