Mike Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 (edited) I felt like picking up a pad & pencil today for the first time in months... well, many years since I've tried to draw anything "real". I picked a picture out of a rat-rod magazine I had and thought an abstract photo of a Chevy truck would be a good subject to get back in to. Wierd angles and an odd horizon angle have certainly challenged me. Here's where it is thus far. The truck's primer black so coloring it is going to be a challenge with the varying degrees of flat black - Edited July 21, 2008 by Mike
Harry P. Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Mike, I hope you don't mind if I give you a little unsolicited advice. You have some weird (impossible, actually) perspective thing happening in your sketch. From the angle we're looking at the truck, we can see the windshield. That being the case, we should also see the front end of the truck in the same way, since it is on the same plane as the windshield. Check out my sketch to see what I mean... See what I mean? If we can see the windshield, we would also see any other parts of the truck that are on the same plane. Don't mean to be a critic...but I've been drawing and illustrating for a living for a looong time. Just trying to help, not criticize.
Mike Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 (edited) I agree 100% Harry. I sketched the box etc. for the truck as well and you SHOULD be able to see the front of the truck. Here's the original photo I'm dealing with in the magazine, and you'll see where all of the "impossible" comes from. It's like the shot was taken through a fish eye lense of some sort. ??? I know my skills are not nearly up to yours, and I know the drawing/shot's off as well before I posted it, but I don't draw every day and this is literally my first "still life" drawing in over 15 years. Thanks for the input. Edited July 22, 2008 by Mike
Harry P. Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 You're right, it looks like the photo is distorted somehow...it does look like a fisheye lens. No problem. Keep on drawing!
bob29579 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 You sure did pick a tough one to do.... Good luck with it. Greg.
