2006 Lexus Super GT

My second model I've done. It's just a basic Tamiya curbside kit. The decals we're a pain because there were so many of them. It came it pretty good to me

Very nice job. I have that one to build. I do not understand why Tamiya did the Mobil 1 decals in foil.  Pictures of the car show they were plain silver.

I noticed that too when I did some research.

The car is liveried specifically to the Japanese Super GT Malaysia race at Sepang, the one round of Super GT that was held outside of Japan. A lot of the teams ran mild twists on their season liveries at this special showcase race.

That's a pretty cool history lesson. I didn't know that at all.

Historically speaking the team had just finished 2nd at the Fuji 500km event the race before, and so when Tamiya licensed the car they probably expected it to go on to greater things. Ultimately they never finished that high for the rest of the season and the Tom's Open Interface won the Championship that year. Tamiya made that kit too as one of the 3 Lexus kits they did in '06/'07.
