So far I found a lot of people saying it's best 250 kit ever, but I can't seem to find anyone who has actually built it.

I thought for a moment it may have been unbuildable but I figued it out. Everthing is a tight fit and it's got to together in a very specific sequence.

Another important note to anyone building it. Set the floor pan in places before gluing rear ducts. You can get the floor in and out after but if do and guess the floor may hit the ducts and you, like me will have to grind some floor away.

I also had to spend a lot of time fitting the floor to the body so it fits right. It is still not there but closer.

You can glue the ducts in and front lower valence in before hand for simplified painting, however, it makes it real tricky to get the rest of it together.

The interior will go in first, then the chassis with engine last. It is a very tight fit to clear the distributors hitting the floor, but it will go.

I don't see any other sensable way of building it, unless you build the entire thing and then put the body bits on - fill and finish.

And agian it is very important to test fit everything, mock up as much in advance as you can, there are lots of assemblies that have to fit just perfect for eveything to line up. If you get one thing out of place it just multiplies as you add assemblies.

It is an old tool; however, from what I have seen it's in reasonably good shape. It is still old technology and don't expect a "shake and bake" It's reminiscent of the old Revell kits when the tools were new. Very little flash, but beware of warped parts. I may buy another.

I still believe it's a buildable kit, however, I haven't finished yet.

Thanks for the tips as I plan on getting this kit. ;)

You just need to think ahead on it as far as possible, as it is easy to get into troubles.

I learned a new trick today.

Wrinkle finish. Just dab black on with a Q-tip and work until the desired effect is achieved.

Isn't it done yet?

Love the work you have done on it so far. It should turn out real nice.

No, maybe tomorrow or the next day.

Thanks. I just been kind of making it up as I go along.

Its a miracle! It all fits, just barely. And there are still more bits that go under the hood.

Well I finally got it on wheels.

The suspension is a mess and had to correct almost everthing.

P1010109.jpg

If you don't correct it the wheels stick out too far and it sits like the motor has been pulled out - with the nose way up.

Bringing the wheels inboard is the easy part. Just drill the brakes and inner rim with the correct size drill bit to bring the wheels inward.

The second major problem is ride hight.

In the rear, and maybe it was just my warped frame but the rear rails didn't sit flat against the floor and needed to be bent back into shape, that dropped a lot of hight out of rear.

The front with it's mulit part A-arms and knuckles was a bit trickier.

I made new front springs to start with and flipped the knuckles arond left for right and vis-versa. No matter if you put them in correct or the other way the wheels camber was out at the top. I ended up cutting off the wheel mounting pins and repositoned new Evergreen rod so the wheels would be more striaght up and down.

The other problem is the rim bead is so thick the rims stick out of the tires. So lacking a lathe at this time I been filing the bead thinner.

I still have a long way to go, and it took a while to figure all this out. But I haven't abondoned it yet. B)

Yeah, I am just becoming a regular ole Ferrari guy.

I didn't know you were building a Ferrari. ;)

It's coming down to "brass tacks" for the WDC so I had to make something up to show support for Massa.

Don't worry though Porsche is still first in my book.

Well Porsche's aren't doing too bad in the Rolex race. ;)

Well I am just SLOWLY building a 1/12 Monogram F40 from the Exotic Car Series and I am building the Tamiya and Fujimi F40's on the side  Speaking of which, do you have instructions for the Tamiya F40?

Nice work Chris. It seems you have been fixing a lot of the RoG problems. However in the end your hard work shows and you have a great build. I'm very happy to see you share your tips and tricks with us.

Nick, I have the Tamiya F40 and I could scan the instructions for you in a day or two. IF that works let me know.

Thanks!

I have a Fujimi 250 GTO enroute to compare...

The Italeri is probably a little better kit overall and a lot less work; however, they are rare and going for $50 - $70.

yeah, oh yeah, that works, thanks a lot, I appreciate it! I will be able to finish it now! I don't do guessing too well
