What began with a plea for help from Victor Poulin nine months ago to the online slot car community culminated in an event he only dreamed about. His son Joe took his first laps around JToC. What made this remarkable was that Joe is a quadriplegic, completely paralyzed from the neck down.

Wonderful, heartwarming story. Just goes to show you that there are still some good people in the world. It's the boards like the slot racing board and this board and several others where a small community of friendships develop, almost a 'village' where everyone looks out for and takes care of each other. The anonymous donor in the story made quite a contribution in airfare and the costs of constructing a custom track, but I'm sure it was nothing compared to the satisfaction and sense of fellowship he felt toward Joe and his family- something money can't buy.

Maybe more of those devices could be made to help other quads enjoy slot racing.

Greg,

The chest plate and framework were made from supplies readily available in hardware and craft stores...a belt, pvc pipe, velcro and some wood...and it's construction is well documented in photos on the OWH website. It's well within the capability of a Boy Scout or other individuals to build as part of a service project.

It takes me only a few minutes to modify the Linear 200 slotcar controller for limited chin movement and, now that I've fitted Joe, I can easily help anyone over the phone make the needed adjustments.

I'm trying to get the word out as best I can to help other folks in Joe's situation.

Regards,

Jeff
