Turbo590 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) 10-1-08 Guy's Though I would share this one with you...fresh from the fab shop. This is my version of a Road-Gear headache rack for the Freightliner..it will be done in Alclad polished aluminum...things to finish..add the slamlocks to the (2) cabinets...and spot lights, I have beacon lights coming for it..and a GPS receiver...and a couple odds and ends..to complete. Completely built from scratch from an internet photo. Mock up of some custom decals..I have KFS chain binders and chains coming from across the pond..I have about 5 evenings into it. phoneguy Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Great job Kurt. You should consider having the 'rack cast for us "less talented" builders like me.
kwtrucker Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Kurt, Love the headache rack and the FLD. Have you decided on a color yet? I've sent you a pm. Keep up the great work. Doug
Turbo590 Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 Freightliner "Viper" Blue for the Cab and Chassis. Lots of Alclad stainless steel (exhaust) polished aluminum/chrome. Kurt McLucas
SpreadAxle Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 The place that leases the trailers to our contractors sells Road Gear headache racks. You've got the look of this right. Nice job Kurt
Scalefinishes Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Kurt, Is that Viper blue the same color that's on the dump truck in your other post? I like that color. That headache rack is amazing. Beautiful work on the day cab conversion. Jameston
Turbo590 Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 (edited) Jameston, Yes..after acquiring the Freightliner DuPont paint chip book..the Viper blue is the same as the dump truck picture posted. I have also decided to do the frame in that blue as well. With all of the chrome/stainless steel and polished aluminum..I think it will turn out OK. I shortened the frame 3/4"..the headache rack has had some more work done to it..And I rec'd the miniature chain binders from KFS..pretty cool. Thank you to all..for the great comments..I'll keep everyone posted... Kurt McLucas Edited October 9, 2008 by Turbo590
Turbo590 Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 10-12-08 Guy's.... Well the weekend came and went...this is what I tortured myself with the past few days..Enjoy!! Few odds and ends to tie up... This is the Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine from the Pete 378 kit. Several custom parts fabricated. Alclad stainless steel (exhaust) Chrome (Valve cover/fan) Sorry if the lighting is not the best...Kurt McLucas
Modelsbyroni Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 DUDE, THAT HEADACHE IS MARVELOUS. AND GREAT WORK ON THE ENGINE DETAILING.I NEED 2 START DOING THAT TO MY TRUCK ENGINES.
Jason Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Very nice! How did you make the decals for the filters/starter?? Thats some awesome detail!! Id love to do that as well!! Thanks Jason
Jim B Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Jason, Check here: http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=...;product_id=303
Bowtienutz Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Sweet Buildup! A Setback axle front end would make it really killer! Are you replicating a specific truck? Keep us posted Vince
sourkraut Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Excellent work as usual Kurt! Perfect!! Phoneguy hit it on the head, that headache rack/locker needs a pass under some silicone rubber. We just might know a guy or two who can pull it off The hood and grill wouldn't hurt either. Thanks for the plug Jim.
B_A_R Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 That's some sharp engine work. And, thanks for the tip on the decal resource. I still am looking for decals of Bendix air cleaner labels. There are some car kits that provide a wealth of underhood decals suitable for truck applications.
Turbo590 Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 BAR.... For the Bendix decals, that you are looking for..please go to http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/ Look under decals...several chassis decal set(s) have the bendix decals...available. Thanks everyone for the great comments.... The headache rack is getting Alclad this week.... Kurt McLucas
Turbo590 Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 10-27-08 Well guy's....Here it is...99% finished. Still need to add another item or two..airlines will go on when attached to the tractor. I have some more binders and chains made for it..did a "little" weathering...GPS unit added. Alclad "Polished Aluminum" with custom decals. Like everything..it has its flaws..Didn't turn out to bad..mad some changes from the last post(s) Picture of the actual rack posted..this is what I eye-balled off of... Thanks Kurt McLucas
SpreadAxle Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 This thing is WICKED!!!!! Did you really make the binders?? How did you make those? Could you give some pointers? Incredible work here.
Jason Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Wow! I think i speak for everyone but thats awesome work!! Do you think you could do a little speech on what you did and what you used??
studioman3 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I agree with all, this engine is awsome, how did you get the two tone effect, it looks like gold underneath the blue/grey, which makes it look so realistic, very nice. The detail of hoses, and decals make the differance for sure. The headace rack is also fabulous, and yes, some pointers on the binders would be great! Nice Tim
