bobss396 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I signed up with eModel Cars last night and have a few questions. There are a few auctions going on, but I see no activity from buyers. Is this because it has yet to catch on? Are there any fees involved? I couldn't tell for sure, but all I want to do is put up a picture of a kit (per auction) and do a basic no-frills auction format. I'm sick up and fed with the once popular well known auction site that has gotten weird lately. Could eModel Cars be what I'm looking for? Thanks, Bob
crispy Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 (edited) Hi Bob, I have 17 auctions running there myself. I've sold three items this week alone. Yes, the traffic is slow, but people looking there are modeler's. There are no fees unless you want to add premium services. No listing fee, no final value fee. It's very easy to use and once you become acclimated to it, it's very easy to use. Of course there is always room for improvement, but I like using it as is. I've bought a few kits from there myself too and it was all easy. List your kit to test the waters and see what you think before you jump into listing more. Last year I added a link to my signature here on the boards to let folks know I had some stuff for sale on eModlecars. I believe that helped sell a couple things. Just list it for what you'd like to get out of the kit. Don't inflate shipping as there are no extra fees as expenses are low. I ship by USPS and at actual cost to the buyer. I also will combine items for shipping and not add the extra $1.00 for additional items. I always ask the buyer to pay what the actual cost is. Nothing more. Gregg Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Bob, Chris is right. There is no fees except for bold, highlights, etc. You can literally sell everything you have for free! Yes, I know, I should charge something for this, but I don't. This is a service for modelers, run by a crazy guy in Hawaii who has no business cents at all! There is no charge for pictures. Just make sure the size limit is small, I think it's 250k or so, the smaller the better. Will it be free forever? That's hard to tell. Depends on what everyone wants from the site. I actually picked up the small 32nd scale kits from the seller here in Puerto Rico! Fly 7500 miles just to save 10 bucks on postage..... go figure :-) Enjoy the site, and yes, it's taken a while for it to get off the ground. It went through a revamp before, but all the prior data was lost, and I think that turned a lot of people away.
bobss396 Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Thanks Chris & Gregg! Free works for me. I'll probably be listing a few things to see how it goes. Of course the first 200 members on this forum are exempt from paying any fees for life! Bob
