jmcnelis Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 So, I'm sitting here at work, searching the web for model cars. It's been a long time since I've ever built a model, and, as I was young, they never quite came out too well (I was an impatient child!) and I thought I'd like to try it again. I found this site, and have been reading some of the posts. I figured I'd post and say hello! Since I am starting fresh, pretty much, I was curious where I should start? Obviously I'm not going to be doing any kinds of custom things like I've seen in these forums, at least not yet, but would like something that I will actually have to put some work into. Any help or direction would be much appreciated! I look forward to reading more here, and learning more about model building. Joey
george 53 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Joey, I never thought I'd be sayin this, but since seein what Ismael did with a snapper, Heck, just try one of those first, if that ol feelin comes back,(which it will) get a glue kit next! Yeah, Go look at Iz's post on his snapper Camaro, That thing is a killer!
crispy Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Welcome aboard joey! What do you like to build? Custom, street, muscle exotic, race? If you want to get your feet wt and jump right in I would highly recommend a Revell snap kit. Just to re familiarize yourself. However if you think that's too easy then just grab a kit you'd like to build and do her up box stock. Take your time, ask questions and of all things: HAVE FUN Chris
Nick F40 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 (edited) Build a Tamiya, start off right! Whatever you do do, don't build anything with a lot of decals, heck if any....holy ###### man trust me Have fun and ask questions, I did, even though most of the guys give smart answers...cough...Chris LeClair....cough only becuase they know me Edited October 8, 2008 by Nick F40
84vanagon Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Joey, welcome back to modeling and welcome to a great site. There is plenty of knowledge here; young, old and forgotten. There is no such thing as a stupid question, so don't hesitate to ask. Nick is correct on the Tamiya kits, but they can be pricey. All of the kit manufacturers can be hit and miss as far as quality and ease of assembly. Some kits that usually go together good and look good when assembled are the Monogram 1/24 scale kits. Alot of them are somewhat simplified and would make good re-starter kits.
randx0 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 welcome glad your coming back to the plastic . I would recommend building a model you remember building ,that way your guaranteed an improvement over the last time you built it.seriously though rebuilding an old favorite should be pretty gratifying.I like using the snap together kit to practice things like painting bare metal foiling and just seeing how much visual detail can be added to a model. good luck and be patient!
