I got this in a parts lot a long time ago and I've always wondered what kit or diecast it came from .

The rollbars were chrome if that helps

What are the rest of the numbers stamped into the transmission hump?

There is " C 181 " and " 3599 "

I kind of suspected a testors kit .

It could be an old Tamiya Capri . It looks like it has a place for batteries

I don't think it is , I'm starting to think it's probably a diecast kit .

Short and squatty with big rear fender inlets, maybe not this kit but one like it or a die cast.

That's a good idea , I don't even know how to hunt down '70s and '80s 1/24 diecast . It most likely had an opening hood .
