E St. Kruiser50 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Hi all Over the years, a lot of them, and because of my style of building, I limited myself to the type of kits I bought and worked on, probably like most of us. Then for some reason while recovering from hernia surgery recently, and being pretty limited for a while on activies, except EBAY - hee hee , I discovered that my tastes were broadening, and the Tom Daniel, Roth and Barris stuff started to look real appealing. In fact, over about 6 weeks I bought some of their older stuff and now with the Tiquana Taxi, Rommel's Rod, the Bathtub buggy and a few other must have's, that I will probably never have time to build, but will hopefully own at least two each, I will at least have the joy of opening them up periodically and feeling the "Goose Bumps" of a kind that only comes from opening a treasured kit. Up until now I wanted to build everything I have, to many though, so that'll never happen. But just the idea of getting to own some of these re-issues, including the munsters stuff is just way too cool to pass up. Build um' all? Who knows?? But to just to have them - my happy feet are dancin'
RodBurNeR Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 It happens... In the last few months i have become more interested in show rods than ever before. I will still always be into my signature, but show rods...SOME not all are on my list of wants to build.

Man I'm glad to see it come back, and I hope the greedy suckers who have original kits and are scalpin folks choke on 'em! Hi George, keep lookin. I picked a Rommel's Rod up at a collectors fair for the equivelent of $14 a couple of years back. Fact is the guy even reduced it 50% because he had had it so long. You may not find one within the next couple of visits but check out the stalls who don't specialise in old kits, under the tables of the railroad sellers, the Beenie bears etc, you never know what might turn up. Mines for building one day, I did have 2 but sold one on the Bay and used the money to buy more kits to build. And yes, someone did give me $200 for it but that was their choice as I started it at £10 no reserve. So as earlier, keep lookin, not everyone knows what they are selling you might get lucky
george 53 Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 (edited) John, Well thats good advice, and I'll use it for sure. BUT, now I don't have to pay some ridiculous price for a 35 year old kit. I'll just wait for Revell to pop it and I'll have me a brandy NEW one for peanuts, compared to what I COULDA paid!! Edited October 19, 2008 by george 53
HotRodaSaurus Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Have I missed a post? Whats the eading? Are Revell Mono actually releasing a reverse engineered Rommel's Rod? I thought about trying to pop a resin copy from an original but just no time at present.
george 53 Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Yeah, John, they're repoppin the Rommels Rod, an the Bathtub buggy. Now you ain't gotta go thru the hassel of castin em yourself! But you can, if you want!ME, I'll just buy them Rascals when they come out!

HotRodaSaurus Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Rommels Rod was a bit of an inspirational/transition kit for me. After years of building military and transportation kits including the usual WW2 bombers, tanks, ocean liners, warships etc, I discovered Hot Rod magazine. Then my goal was to find hot rod kits, AMT were a bit hard to find, I didn't know they existed. Then I found a shop selling Monogram and of course Rommel's Rod. With this kit I was eased out of military and into the world of show rods. Sorry but things like the Barris's Bath Tub,and most of the those kind of rods did absolutly nothing for me, just to far out though I realise that is a little hypocritical with Rommel's Rod being the most far out rod ever. Great to hear they are repopping the RR though, I will certainly buy a couple so saving me a lot of effort in casting, also the Dragula, only to improve on my original build though. Not sure about the T Taxi though. Seeya, John
