FINALLY completed this one!! Been at this a long time, and it's finally done! Not quite right, but I'm happy with it!

Some History: Johnny Rutherford won his first career start in the 1963 Twin 100, which, at the time, counted in the official stats.

It was the ONLY win in NASCAR history for a car #13 and, I am pretty sure, Smokey Yunick's last Grand National win, but I may be wrong.

The kit is the old Model King issue 63 Impala, with all the trim removed. I actually gutted the interior (it's itself partially scratchbuilt) and I used a Plastic Performance Products cage, with parts of that also scratchbuilt. The wheels and tires are Modelhaus.

Decals are DSAO, with the Gray Rock Contingency coming from Fred Cady. JWTBM provided the chrome hood and trunk pins. Refrence was provided by Hugh Boulden and this build would NOT have been possible without his help. The only color photo I've seen of this car came from him, and he helped me with the cage and decal placement. I didn't know that the roof only said "John Rutherford" until he sent me a shot of it.

Thanks a bunch my friend!

I am not happy with the paint, it bubbled on me several times and I just went with it at the end. I also got the roof scratched, unfortunatly. The contingencys are correct, but there are more on the real car that I was not able to make out in the picture, so I left them off. The hood should also read HP, not CI, but no big deal there, the paint is too poor to worry about it.

It won't win any awards, but it was definitly a learning experience, alot of scratchbuilding went into it and it will make my next Darkside era cars much better...I already have another 63 Chevrolet in the works.

Enjoy the photos and thanks for reading!

Sorry for the photo quality, the sky was not cooperating with me, stupid clouds, LOL.

Nicely done, Billy! I always liked that color scheme. I even thought of doing my Lindberg '66 Chevelle up in black and gold with pro touring wheels.

Don't sweat the paint issues - it looks good from here.

What paint did you use Billy. I always wanted to build one of these. This color scheme looks real nice.
