ChevyFan Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Hello ppl, Is there anyone out there that dabbles over into the non-car realm that can help with my problem. I have a model of the Space Shuttle Columbia that I would like to get parts for. I think it's 1:144 but not sure on that. I "inherited" it years ago and want to bring it back to it's former glory. Is there anyone on this site that knows where I can get parts for this, or a link to a similar site as this one that might be able to help me with this. Without measuring it and from memory, it's approx. 18 inches or 45 centimetres long. I'm looking mainly for the wheels, but I think there are a couple other parts I may need on further inspection. Any help will be great.
Dragon7665 Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Boy that's a Fun one! I have always wanted to do a few Shuttles, my problem is that I would wind up with all of the different Shuttles over the years!(Dang Frito Lay was right, I can't stop at just one ) More than likely it is 1/144th or there approximately....... The problem would be identifying it, if it doesn't have the manufacturer molded on it.... Revell and Aifix have offered a few different Columbia kits, and MPC did atleast one Columbia Kit.... A couple of Revell's Kits: Airfix Kit: MPC's There have been other manufacturers that have done 1/144th scale Shuttle Kits, and I'm sure some of them could have come with Columbia decals as an option..... Here's a Site for kit Info., just scroll down till you see the Space Shuttle listings... http://www.ninfinger.org/~sven/models/space_models.html
ChevyFan Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 Thanks for your help on this so far. I'd say that it's the second Revell one. Cos it does have the space lab inside it and no booster rockets. It was built with the wheels down like it would be after a mission. Although, most if not all are now missing. I vaguely remember seeing one the last time I got it off the cupboard. I did see the ninfinger site, but it was only a quick look and couldn't see a forum like this from my quick looks around the net so far. If anyone knows of such a site, it'd be great. Cos would like to get some help with this like I have had on this site for cars since joining here.
James Flowers Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Maybe you could take the landing gear from another aircraft. There should be some that are pretty close to it.
Aaronw Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 The Shuttle has been made in several scales from 1/72 to 1/288. This site might be useful, they have some stuff for the shuttle, no wheels but an email to them might point you in the right direction. http://www.realspacemodels.com/index.htm
ChevyFan Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 Thanks again for all the help on this non-car related matter. If I can get the shuttle wheels it'd be better, but I may have to look at other wheels if necessary. Thanks for the website links. I've emailed them for more help on this matter, so hopefully I'll hear something back soon.
mageckman Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Have you tried escalemodels.com? they have a forum similar to this one as well as sci-fi, fantasy, flight, military, and aerospace areas on their forum. hope this helps
