I had one when I was a soldier stationed in Germany. It was a good little car. It had a 2.3L four cylinder and manual transmission. I could drive it a couple of hours at a time at 125mph on the Autobahn. I recently stumbled across a video of one with a Chevy LS. That was interesting. Research showed that an LS swap requires fabrication beyond my skill level, but a Mercedes V-8 can drop in with off-the-shelf parts. A stand-alone ecu is a good idea.
Used Mercedes M-113 engines are not very expensive, so I plan to do that swap. Here is the car. It will be dropped off at my house next Friday. I did go look at it and drive it. It’s not in showroom condition, but it’s a 34 year old project car.

I like the style of street rods and street machines, but I have to confess, I like pretty much everything else about more modern cars. Plus, I think this is a nice looking car.

The seller told me about a young guy who wanted to turn it into a “sleeper” (he couldn’t remember the word). He wouldn’t sell it to that guy. I shook my head and said “kids today”. I didn’t tell him that this 51 year old will turn it into a sleeper.
