my guess would be to haul oversized loads, thats just a guess though.

They're used to haul the HUGE dump trucks and cranes that the mining companies use.

There was a TV show on not too long ago on how the dump trucks were built and it showed one being transported on a trailer almost exactly like that. The wheels / tracks of the load actually hang off the sides and the trailer supports the load by the frame. That way the load sits lower on the trailer and the truck can go on the roads without having to have power lines and such removed.

Sorry for the slow reply. I just saw where you had posted the question.

The TV show I was watching showed cranes loading and unloading the vehicles from the trailers. I don't think the fronts separated from the trailer, but since it was a TV show, I can not be 100% positive on this. With the weight of the load they were carrying, I honestly do not think they would be 2 piece trailers though.

What I would honestly suggest is doing a search for mining equipment and see what you can find that way.
