FloridaBoy Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 It is quite obvious why eBay is forcing PayPal on us. It allows them to invade our bank accounts to collect the monthly fees from sellers. Now by eliminating seller feedback, we have nothing to deal with when it comes to bad buyers. I just went through h--- with an extortionist disguised as a fussy buyer. I eliminated him from participating in my future auctions. A true nut if there ever was one. Ken "FloridaBoy" Willaman
Scott - Elm City Hobbies Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Yeah it must be just a US Ebay thing, as the Canadian Ebay site still allows me to check or uncheck the payment options of Paypal, Money Order or Cheque, and we haven't been told that we can't accept or advertise that we will take other forms of payment besides Paypal. Don't get me wrong, I too prefer Paypal, as it is much easier and quicker than a MO, but if a customer doesn't have a Paypal account, I wouldn't Fathom the thought of saying no to them because of that....not really good for business. I do only take MO's from CDN and US customers, outside of that it has to be Paypal...could you imagine waiting on a MO from Australia?? It takes long enough to ship Internationally, never mind having to wait for a MO to get here. All this will do is actually eliminate those that don't have a Paypal account. You will either have the choice to open a Paypal account, or not buy things on Ebay.....to me it seems that it will hurt Ebay in the end, as even in this day and age, there are alot of people that do not have a bank account....so by saying Paypal only, you eliminate those sales, which not only hurts the sellers, but also Ebay, as sales will be down all around. No matter how the customer pays, Ebay still gets their pound of flesh off of the fees. Granted they make even more from the Paypal fees as well, but isn't something better than nothing?
James Flowers Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 My point has always been that, I do not need anymore information about my banking or credit cards out there than is necessary. I should have the choice too buy by money order or not. The seller should also have a choice of how he or she gets paid.
Spike Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 ive been buyin a quit a bit on ebay and alls i use is MOs and aint had a problem
James Flowers Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 (edited) Ebay owns Paypal or Paypal owns Ebay, it's one way or the other. you still have the option of using "other" electronic funding options, such as your credit cards or check/debit card if you choose to do so. i like Paypal becuase it's another way for someone to pay me for items i may have for sale or for me to pay for items i'm buying other people have for sale. i just sold some model kits i had for sale online and it was a quick and very simple transaction thanks to Paypal. the deal was made, money transferred and kits sent, all within a day. try that with a money order or personal check. i have also made some purchases on Ebay lately that went very quickly and i think as a direct result of using Paypal. i won the items with my bid, paid for them and had them in my possesion within a few days. Dave I think we know by now you love PayPal. You still don't get it do you? Like I said before you should have choice. EBAY does give the seller a choice to still accept Money Orders. Please tell use what you name you sell under ? So We that like to buy with Money Orders Don't waste our time with you. How dare you say that anyone that does not use PayPaL needs too be weeded out ! MicroNitro Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Hi, I have sold thousands of items on ebay since 2001 and have had little very problems with them. One exception was a new $600.00 burn out oven that was paid for with paypal. About 4 weeks after shipping it I got an email that it had been broken during shipping. It was sent back and it had been used and broke up real bad. After contacting Ebay, paypal and the buyer I was told she had proof she had sent it back to me so they had taken the money out of my bank account to refund her. Ebays is the only game in town so I still sell there, but they no longer have my bank info and I never sell anything over $100.00. I figure the most I can be out is $100.00 that way. This is just my two cents.
