Ayatollah Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I am considering two Italeris: Ford 9000 LTL and the mack Superliner. Are these any good, and what engine etc? The Superliner doesn't look too nice, but I like the looks of the Ford and would like to give that a shot if it's not a total mess. Other than the wheels, it doesn't look bad. It looks like the Mack has no nameplates anywhere and the proportions look sad.
mackinac359 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Italeri's truck kits almost build themselves. The tricky part is the multi-piece cabs, something different when you are used to the 1 piece AMT/Ertl cabs. The Italeri kits typically have nice chrome plating, minimal flash to remove, and almost everything fits the first time. The Ford LTL9000 is a nice kit. The engine is a Cummins. Tim
Jim B Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 (edited) I've read that the Superliner has some issues (curbside, Freighliner frame, no logos/insignia etc.), but the ones I've seen build out nicely though. Here are some articles from 2001 Scale Auto Enthusiast concerning correcting/detailing the Mack Superliner: http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thsca...01_01__januari/ http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thsca...1_02__februari/ http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thsca...2001_03__march/ http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thsca...2001_04__april/ http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thsca..._2001_06__june/ It's a lot of work, but your Superliner will look really nice when it's done. Ayatollah Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Thanks, I really appreciate it! I'll probably do the Ford then. My main wrecker for years was an '87 with a cummins, I switched to a factory reman CAT 3406B at a million-two. I guess it comes with one of the right engines, which is nice. I'd build it with the cummins. I'm not sure I feel like doing the Mack. That's the only superliner out there other than a resin conversion kit. Maybe some day. Thank you both again!
Jim B Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Personally, I like the LTL9000 better myself.
Ayatollah Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 I took some time to read those articles, and I appreciate the opportunity to see them. I had no Eye Deer they (Italeri) made a freightshaker into a Mack! It would probably be easier to start with a Mack kit and do a conversion! I will pass on that for now, I have plenty of two-year projects as it is. The real thing wasn't a bad truck at all. I want to do the Ford and have ordered one. Is italeri the ones that have the lift off roofs? I've never done any Italeri kits, other than a tank so I'm new as it gets. Thank You!
SpreadAxle Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Jim, thanks so much for posting these. I have these articles from somewhere, but it's helpful to have them on the computer as well.
Old Albion Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Jim, Thanks also for posting the details on the MACK. They will come in usefull for detailing a 500 HP MACK V8 from Auslowe I will be building in a future project. Best Wishes Dave Bates
Jim B Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 You're welcome. I found them a while ago, and I thought they applied here. Might be a project I'll attempt some time in the future.
Ayatollah Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 I finally got the Ford 9000. Beautiful kits! I got two, one is the Zack-Lift style wrecker, I am VERY impressed! I am used to the Ertl and old AMT kits, and even newer Revell, but these Fords are beautiful, other than the dash. I got a revell 1/32 Mig 21 and he two Ford kits today, so now I just need 10 years to get all 3 built! Thanks for the input, now I need a good 3406 B
mountaindewd Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Ayatollah, Give this a try. He may have what you're looking for. http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/ Les
