Goldfinger24k Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Since the "My Science Project" GTO is basically done (mirrors and license plates yet), I figured it's time for the next one to try to keep the ball rolling. A simpler kit this time so that maybe I won't get stalled out by putting too many details into it (although I do have plans for some enhancements). Haven't completely decided on a color yet but I'm thinking of a 2 tone red upper, black lower with black fender flares. Very similar to the box top but just with red instead of yellow. (I know, another red Ferrari) I did already use aluminum tubing to make the exhaust tips so they have some dimension and depth. I have some shaping on the body to do. The rear bumper is too thick on one side. I just know that I'm going to want to simplify the interior to resemble more of a race car and I'm not sure if I'm going to be happy with just the single roll bar hoop in the kit. So, I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to reign myself in to not going overboard.
afx Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 I have a stalled project building a racer out of this kit, looking forward to see what you do.
Goldfinger24k Posted January 25, 2022 Author Posted January 25, 2022 So, in looking at pictures of racing Ferrari 308s, I knew that the stock looking interior wasn't going to cut it. I had to clean up (smooth out) the center console and the floor. The stock door panels had to go too. I thought of cutting, filing and sanding them down smooth but decided it would be easier to make new panels. The thought of what kind of handle to use and how to close the door with a pull of some sort made me look even more into the different designs of interiors. One that I really like is a cut out door panel leaving access to the inside of the door. I would imagine that the driver just grabs the door panel to close the door also. So that's what I decided to do. After cutting out the door panels I cut out the center of them for the look I wanted. In doing that I also had to cut out the area on the tub where the door panels attached to create the hole looking into the inside of the door skin. Next I need to work on some kind of roll bar that works with the kit supplied hoop and then try to find a racing seat. Not sure if I want to go with 2 seats or just one.
