This is a build I've been itching to do for a long time. I've always liked the early medium duty and heavy duty 3 ton tractors of the 50's, but with alot of the old resin casters out of business (sjs, ron cash etc) One is back to just building from scratch again (nothing wrong with that). So here is my take on the F-8 Ford, using the scale auto magazine scans I found here.. http://members.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/about/

I might base it off the c-600 stake truck kit, using the conventional chassis that is included with it,

this should be a slow casual build. I plan on a 1964 Chevy c60 cab and a 1955 2 ton also.

Pictures are very very hard to find!

Here is what I've gathered

I started one half last night. I cut the fender along the body welt lining, I may even redo the welt with thin strip.

I added 1mm thick 4mm wide plastruct strip, then stacked 4 pieces to get the contour shape correct. I will need to grind away the underside also, but thinking last night, it seemed easier, that could change however when it comes time to the other side.

Little rough..

I've had that article saved for a similar build myself someday, the 1950 Ford is a good looking truck. BTW not sure if you saw my reply in the Ford C post, but the frame on the Ford C 600 is 1/8" x 3/8" and Evergreen carries 24" strip matching those dimensions (0.125x 0.375").

I did get started on a 1950 Chevy Loadmaster which requires similar widening of the fenders. Not nearly as bad as I expected, lengthening the hood however has become quite the chore since the front and rear of the hood stay the same the angle of the sides has to be changed, lots of putty and sanding.

Bit late now but Spalding Trading and Shipping has a resin F-8 Sleeper cab available.

Thanks Aaron! Those dimensions will Help. Chris sent me a pic of the frame as well, I may just order the stake truck kit anyways, I can always pop some molds off the key parts in the kit.

Oh a sleeper!? Hmmm..now that gets me thinking.

Id love to see that loadmaster, I want to build one in the future, Ive been collecting plenty of reference.

Hi Ryan,

That´s coming out nice.I have do redo my cab because the sheet I added wasn´t straight...

If you take aclose look to the picture you could see what I mean

I started this in 2003....than put the cab back to the kitbox.....I think I´ll take another kit to build it new.I also thought about making a frame from scratch with my cnc milling machine.

Added some pics to my Fotki

Keep up the good work,

Regards,Chris

Ryan,

I posted some photos of a '51 F-7 Fire Truck. The photos aren't great, but I have allot of close up photos from the engine compartment. I was replacing the clutch last year and I snapped a bunch of photos so I could remember where it all went. I am about 2000 miles from the truck, but if you have any specific questions I can get someone to take so more photos or measurements.

Cool build, I look forward to more photos.
