Dr. Cranky Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Here at last are the pics of the mounted engine . . . with the distributor and wires in place . .. The more I look at the Jester skull, Jim, the more I like it. Thanks for the idea, buddy. If I were the Joker indeed I'd have a subscription to PLAYBOY--why not? Make Heff proud!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Here comes some preliminary shots of the finished build . . . I went over the body with a small sponge and added little areas of rust showing through . . . I also added the exhaust pipes with a bit of attitude to them. Thanks, Mike Napoleon!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 This pic came out real nice. I really like the little rust throughs . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Thanks, buddy. Now all I have to do is take some glamous shots of it . . .
Harry P. Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 ok... I'm going to put myself right in the line of fire here with some "constructive criticism"... I think the molded-in trim detail on the front and rear glass should have been painted either red or black. You don't often see a car with clear windshield moldings!!! (sorry V... but the clear window moldings really scream "paint me"...)
rv1963 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I have been watching your build from the start and this Merc looks just amazing, my favorite area is the interior and that shifter knob i love it.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Harry, I can paint the windshield. I have a very thin brush and if I am careful I can give it just the right look.
Harry P. Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 But of course, if you should happen to slip with that brush, well... you didn't get the idea from me!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Thank heavens I am using acrylics just in case!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Did someone say flag? I also painted the trim around the windshields!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Here are a few more pics . . . Some rides bring out the best, even out of the dead!!! (Thanks for the skeleton, J!)
Harry P. Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Where did you get that medallion thingie on the back? That is too cool!
rv1963 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Outstanding finish on your Merc this car is to cool the perfect Rat.
Clay Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I could not possibly leave the back without some sort of ornament, so I found this and think it works . . . He said he found it Harry.... GEEZ!!!
Clay Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Thanks Clay... that really clears it up! Glad I could help.
Bernard Kron Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Why does the phrase "Ju-Ju Gothic" come to mind? ....
Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Ah, I love the banter between you guys! Thanks for all the comments. The skull details on this vehicle come from GAMES WORKSHOP and the Warhammer Army titled TOMB KINGS. Lots of neat stuff.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 A few more shots from the alleyway:
Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 One more parked in front of D. Cranky's Workshop:
Guest JamesDE Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I have been silently watching this build , and I gotta tell you. That is truly amazing. I absolutely love it. I am 33 years old, and back in my late teens and early 20's, I never really liked Pre-50's cars. Now that I am older, I have started to appreciate and I really like these types of builds. Great work on this!!
