Saltie Olds Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 Here’s my next project. It’s Monograms CJ-7 kit. I’m thinking of doing my own version of the Jeep from MacGyver or one from Jurassic Park / World. It’s looking like I’m going to need to figure out a 2/2.5 inch lift, and maybe put on bigger tires, or keep these BFG All Terrain’s. I’ve also thought about doing the left side as MacGyver and the right side as the Jurassic Park /World .
Saltie Olds Posted July 12, 2022 Author Posted July 12, 2022 Thinking about doing a spring over conversion and using these tires on it.

I’ve been working on a lift for this, to clear either the BFG All Terrains or the mud tires. Would love to use the mud tires, but wouldn’t mind using the BFG’s as well. Got the chrome stripped off the wheels as well.
Saltie Olds Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 Here’s a picture of the two types of tires I’m choosing between. I won’t be lifting the Jeep any more than I already have.

Saltie Olds Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 Here’s a picture of the Jeep with the more aggressive mud tires.

stavanzer Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Mud Tires for sure. The Most common method of lifting Jeep in the Real World is simply to put the axles Under the springs, instead of On Top of them. But, hard to do with the old Monogram moldings. I owned and abused a 1979 CJ-5 and would like to have had those monster tires, back in the day,

stavanzer Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Beautiful Jeep, Mike! I like the small block. The axles in that kit are easy to invert.
Mike C. Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Thanks! The SBC is from an MPC Deserter truck kit. I used the jeep kit trans. Could have done a better job painting those flairs. I have since installed the radiator hose. The lift was easy. You just have to do a little lining up.
Saltie Olds Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 Thank You Everyone. I’m actually thinking about doing a spring over on it. But do it in such a way it won’t lift it at all, from where it’s sitting now.
Saltie Olds Posted July 14, 2022 Author Posted July 14, 2022 I was able to set the spare tire up and here’s some pictures of it with the spare tire.
Oldmopars Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 These are a great kit. I did mine up as the Daisy Duke Jeep, as the Daisy Duke Kit from AMT is the wrong jeep. She had a CJ-7, not the kits CJ-5. BTW, the Jurassic Park and MacGyver Jeeps are both YJs. While similar, the later YJ had square headlights, padded dash, 4.0l FI engine, and a whole bunch of other differences. Your build is looking good, keep it up.

If I do either of those builds, it would be just a themed build. I don’t plan on going out and buying two of the Tamiya Wrangler kits. If I did get one of those kits, the left half would be for MacGyver and the right half would be for Jurassic Park.
Saltie Olds Posted July 15, 2022 Author Posted July 15, 2022 Here’s some pictures of the painted chassis. No I just need to figure out how to do the shocks for it.
Saltie Olds Posted July 15, 2022 Author Posted July 15, 2022 Here’s a few pictures of the body partway painted. I ran out of the color, so I’ll have to go get some more, then I’ll be able to finish painting the body. if I could go out and buy myself any Jeep right now, I’d go get a CJ-7. 1

Mike C. Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Oh yeah. I painted the Revell Big Game GMC the same paint.
