dryvr12 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I have the revell pete 359. I want it to look like the 351 (the needle nose) so it could be a Duel truck. What type of conversions will i have to make? Any specific measurements? Also, how did you guys weather the trucks (ive seen a few duel "reamakes" that looks great)
Jim B Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I'm no Peterbuilt guru, nor do I claim to be an expert and conversions & weathering; but this article might help: http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thsca..._09-10_sep-okt/ If I remember a thread about this truck earlier, the Duel truck was actually a 251. The front tandem wasn't powered.

Jim B Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 You're welcome. I don;t know about the 351 & 281 being the same. We'd better wait for Tim A. to weigh in on this.
mackinac359 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 351 and 281 are the same cab - the difference being the 351 is a tandem drive and 281 is a single drive. The Duel Peterbilt is/was a 281 with a tag axle. The Revell Peterbilt 359 will require extensive modifications to the cab to make the smaller windshields, lower roof (by 4 inches), squared door corners, small back window, narrow nose hood and radiator. Check Ebay for an AMT Peterbilt 359 kit #T500 or T500-500 - even a junker kit - just for the cab. This will save you a lot of modifications. Tim

dryvr12 Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 THESE THINGS ARE GOING ANYWHERE FROM $50 TO $200! where can i get the body very cheap, or even... free?
mackinac359 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Some modifications will be needed, interior parts are different, cab mount a bit different. The Revell hood is a tad wider than the AMT cab, but since you're reworking it into a 351 narrow nose, this won't be an issue. Tim The cab will fit on the revell chassis, right?
Old Albion Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Tim, Am I right in saying that the 351 Pete was available until the mid 1970s? I'm sure I saw a 351 for sale on Ebay some time ago with the big window cab from about 1975???? Thanks Dave
Old Albion Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Check the topic/thread posted by Chris (Twist67) He built a 281 from a big window 359 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17408 Best Wishes Dave
dryvr12 Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Im not gunna make it an exact replica. I think Ill just try and rework the nose
ns4ever Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Did the same thing myself, just chopped a section out of the nose, using a resin 281/351 grille and headlight assembly as the front width measurement, then used some plastic sheet to widen the inside of the fenders.
mackinac359 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Yes. 351 was produced from 1954 until 1976. The majority of the 1100 cab (big window) 351's were flat-fender vocational trucks. The flat fender was devised as an "Autocar fighter" to get into the eastern markets that Autocar was strong in. Tim Tim, Am I right in saying that the 351 Pete was available until the mid 1970s? ABC Auto Industry Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Also, let's not forget about the 288/358, which is the tilt-hood version of the 281/351.
