How were the seat harnesses (= the "upper par" of the seatbelts) attached to the body ?

- To the floor directly behins the seat ?
If so, must have been some guiding loops on the top of the backrest ?
- To the floor further back ? Perhaps "the kick up" to the area under the the rear seat ?
   Or attachmen further back ?
- To the roll cage ? If so how/where ? To one of the horizontal beams transversing the car behind the seat ?

Or other ways of attacxhment ?
Have been searching the net and YT films but cannot find anything

Information on this would be most helpful and appreciated
/ Gunnar

Not a 100% sure on this and they changed a lot thru the 60s and 70s but they basically used a passenger seat and I believe they attached the belts to the bar behind the seat. Most drivers shoulders were higher than the seat back and the head restraint was a pad if they even had 1. They were just starting to make hip pads for the right side of the seats back then. Let me know what year and I will look thru some of my old books to see if I can be more accurate.

Gunnar,

I got in some research last night

A couple 64s did not show much of shoulder harness mounts.  The reading did say that the rules left a lot of the cage up to the teams.

Also in 1964 Joe weatherly died in a crash in a race.  It mentioned he did not wear a shoulder harness so maybe build the 61 without them.

I will continue to look at these and see what else I can find.

Also maybe contact petty museum.  Tell them what you are doing they may be able to help your research and get you some pics. Most of the old nascar team shops are very accommodating.

Little more research

Petty 64 has no headrest.

Seatbelts and harness mandatory in 1966.

Richard petty : cars of the king is the book I am using for reference.

Hope this info will help you.

Thanks Jeffrey for your help, whatever you find will be helpful
The museum contact was a good idea but unfortunately I cannot find any emailadress to the Pettymuseum
They just show contacts via Facebook and Instagram , where I do not have accounts
I am looking for other museums now
