TOM MURPHY Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 What do you do while you're waiting for paint to dry? I don't know about you but I surf 1:1 sites and look for new projects. This morning I found a site that had a bunch of pics from Bonneville and El Mirage. There I came across this jewel. Some of you may ask what's so special about a rusted '37 Panel Delivery. Well the best thing about it is that it is a rusted '37 Panel Delivery. One of the things about our hobby is the chance to stretch our skills. Building a '37 Panel Delivery is no big deal, making it look like this one well, that's a different story. I can do bright shiny paint standing on my head, but beat up and weathered, is outside of my comfort zone. In the words of Mae West, "Hang on boys it's going to be a bumpy ride" The inspiration: The Plastic: Hosted on Fotki As you can see the Revell '37 Panel is the start, but the stance is wrong as it sits way to high on all 4 corners. Modifying the hood and stance will be the major things and they are far from major changes. So, we'll borrow some parts from the Revell '40 Ford Good Guys Kit to bring the nose down to earth and adjust the rear cross member to drop the rear. i got to of these models 1 of them i built stock but put a set of 20.00 low rider wheels low profile tores on it real cool

It's one of those kits where the only limitation is your imagination. Unfortunately, it was a somewhat limited appeal subject. I don't think Revell did themselves any favors by issuing it the "Deluxe Kit" BRIGHT Blue version. At that point it went from a viable kit to toy status. Not necessarily how you want to present a subject to adult modelers.
59 Impala Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Nice project. I like the look all rusty an all. That blue is really bright. What you've done is make it look alot better I have one of these and I looked in the box and mine is molded in White, surprise, surprise, surprise (in Gomers voice) Can't waite to see it finished. Fletch Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Nice project. I like the look all rusty an all. That blue is really bright. What you've done is make it look alot better I have one of these and I looked in the box and mine is molded in White, surprise, surprise, surprise (in Gomers voice) Can't waite to see it finished. Dan Revell issued this in 2 different colors the first release was molded in white and had decals for Blony bubble gum, Ben-Hur Drip Coffee and Olympic Laundry. The second issue (molded in the bright blue) was the Deluxe Kit with paint, glue and a brush with decals for the Deuue Bros Circus. Hosted on Fotki I remember the white version in the hobby shops, but I don't remember if the blue version came from Wally World or a LHS. Either way the kit is pretty descent, the only thing that seemed to me to be an issue was the suspension causes the thing to ride to high. Other then that the rest of the kit is pretty accurate compared to the 1:1s that I've seen. This seems to be a kit that a lot of us have and have stuffed into the back of the closet being it's something of a limited subject. Perhaps with this build under way we'll see more of them built.
CB Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) Looks like that white kit has a bit of a lower front stance. Since I got me one of the blue ones, I've been wondering what to do with it. Just worked this up on the 'puter. I've been wanting to use some of the Cragars I have, so this might be where they wind up. My Fotki is acting up this morning, guess it aint awake yet ......andyhow, I copied & pasted this pic from there (never done that before) and there's the link to the page as well. http://public.fotki.com/V866/high--mighty-...aybemy37pd.html Edited March 27, 2009 by CB
george 53 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Now THAT looks GOOD! A lil off the top NEVER hurt nothin!
59 Impala Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Yep, I have one of the first issues I guess. I like the look of georges 37 with the chopped top. I don't know what I'm gonna do with mine yet. I do like the rusty look though (hint, hint). Dan
Fletch Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 Hey Fletch Ol'Buddy. When You put an Ardun Conversion in a 34 You need to make extra room, like My neighbor and co-worker Jimmy did! BTW, Dave ol buddy ol pal, thanks for the providing the 1:1 inspiration for the AMT/Revell 3 window '34. I have an AMT '34 5 Window Coupe that has had the roof replaced with the Revell Snap '34 3 Window Coupe. I hadn't found a suitable home for it. Looks like the wheels will be the biggest obstacle to the build. But, hey what's life without a little challenge now and then.

The worst part is I have thought about doing something like that with one of the other Panels kits. But you need some serious Kieth Black Hemi with a triple intake snorkel on top of a 14-71 blower.
