Smitty Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I applied some decals from a well known and high quality supplier a few years ago to some tires. The decals are still sticky and very glossy. I sanded the tires lightly prior to applying the decals, but I’m wondering now if the tires should have been coated with some clear acrylic before I put the decals on. At this point I’m looking for opinions on what I can do to remedy the situation and halt this continuous reaction so the tires will look matte and not be sticky. Should I coat them now with a matte clear acrylic paint to seal them?
stitchdup Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 you may have to replace the decals and possibly rotate the tyres to use the inner surface. when you sanded the tyres it would have made the surface contact area no longer smooth so they probably wont be holding on. decals like a smooth gloss surface to stick best, then they can be overcoated with the finishing clear coats in whichever finish you like. I've made the same mistakes and was given this advice by another member and it works for me.
Mike 1017 Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I first spray the tires with Testors Dullcote. Let dry, apply decals let dry, spray over decals and let dry. Good luck Mike
