This is my way to create rusty areas on bodywork and other metallic parts.

Actually I only use brushes, cheap cosmetic colors and for fixing a liquid, also used to fix gold leaf foil. Maybe, another weak glue would be working too.

Have you tried Vallejo Rust. That stuff is also pretty good. 

Thanks, Pierre. No, for weathering I didn't use Vallejo so far.

I think the advantage of cosmetic color is its powder consistency, similar to pigment colors. This way you can also give the rust a realistic rough surface.
