pharr7226 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I think the "best" one to use would be HoK clear that is compatible with your HoK paint. You sure can't go wrong by using the manufacturer's clear. You can get it directly from HoK, or Black Gold or at any well stocked automotive paint store. That said, you could also use most any of the automotive clears, like PPG, Dupont or Spies Hecker, also available at any automotive paint store. Alternately you could go to a friendly autobody shop and I bet they'd sell you a small bottle of clear and some reducer if you brought your own bottles. And if you have to use model paints, the Tamiya clear could be a good bet as would most of the other model paint clears. Kustom Kolors is the exception to the rule regarding manufacturers compatibility. Kustom Kolor's Acrylic Clear will craze Kustom Kolors paint. It happened to me and there are numerous posts about the same thing on other websites. Krylon Crystal Clear works well over Kustom Kolors.

Trust me it may have the "wet" look the first week after painting it but a month goes by and it will fade something fast.I only use that stuff to mix flake in for a flaked paint job.

Monty Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Guys, I purchased several bottles of the WalMart HOK hobby paints when they were available. Unfortunately, HOK made their reducer in the same size bottles as their paints, so it was virtually impossible to ever find any. Have any of you found a reliable, readily available reducer for airbrushing? I'd prefer something I can find locally as opposed to buying online. The paint seems to be a hybrid (acrylic enamel?) and having no background in chemistry, I'm at a loss as to what might work best. I've seen some people say lacquer thinner works while others have said it just caused their paint to clump up. TIA for all helpful responses.
