Guest Davkin Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I'm wondering what if any demand there would be for a cast resin '32 Ford kit. This is something I've wanted myself for some time and looks like I'll have to do it myself if it's going to happen, but I wonder if anybody else would be interested in such a thing. If I did this it wouldn't be a body only kit. At the very least it would include the body, frame suspension and some kind of interior tub. At 1/16 scale this wouldn't be cheap and it seems 1/16 scale is practically a dead scale. I do have quite a bit of experience with resin casting so I do more or less understand what I'd be getting into. David
LDO Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I can't see much of a market for a kit that costs more than a Big Deuce, is half the size, and less detailed.
Guest Davkin Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Hmm....where did I say that the detail would be low? Seriously, have you really looked at the Revell Big Duece? Revell didn't come remotely close to taking advantage of the large scale as far as detailing goes, I'm quite certain I could beat it in 1/16 scale. What's really important here is wether there's a demand for a 1/16 scale '32 Ford kit. Availability of '32 Ford kits in other scales is irrelevant to a person who wants one in 1/16 scale, and that's who I'm looking for if such people exist, (at least one does, me ). People are paying $200+ for 1/43 multimedia kits when 1/24 relatively inexpensive styrene kits exist of the same subject. A modeler wants the scale that he wants! I do agree, that demand is probably very, very low, (I may be the only one! ) but I figured I'd check. David

David David, I think, based on the simple fact that 1/16 scale model car kits in general have a very spotty history--some great kits there, but they seem never to have held any retailing space for very long, any of them. Perhaps the story might have been different had model car kits gotten their biggest start in this scale, but as I think most would agree, that never quite happened, and modelers in any area of plastic building tend to be very scale bigoted--we all seem (whether it's trains, planes, ships, armor or cars) to want our collections in all the same scale, whichever one it is that we really sunk our teeth into. While 1/16 scale is one and a half times larger than 1/24-1/25, and offers the possibility of greater detail, the sales numbers of kits in this scale are, frankly, abysmal, otherwise we'd have seen lots more in this scale than we ever have. That said, to do a Deuce in this scale, would be a total scratchbuild, chassis, suspension, driveline, body, hood, grille shell, even wheels and tires. To have any chance at sales success, I submit that it would have to be nearly a complete kit--simply due to the lack of donor kits for most modelers, and the sheer non-existence of aftermarket components beyond a few photoetched parts that may have been done over the years. Art I totaly agree with you! i have come to the fact that since i only build 1/16th scale trucks and cars and all of them have one of a kind scratch built items, i have to cast them to have plenty of them to use for futcure kits. i have been building 1/16th for the past 20 years and their is not alot of kits to chose from. i have been working on some kits for years and still not finishd with them because of the fact that i have to make everything they don't make! so now i have about 20+ kits that i have made of fabricated and are at my casters house and we are making and building what every we feel is in the bast interest for 1/16th scale. i can proudly say that i am the only person in the world with a custom scratch built 1963 impala low rod. you would be suprised to find out that alot of toy companys are making 1:18th scale r/c cars and trucks that are so close to 1/16th scale. just head out to wal mart and target and see for your self. socalinc. and rmr resins are making and comming out with much more that you can imagin for 1/16th. check out the list i posted in the "big boyz"section under socalinnovations and see for your self. if you are looking for something in 1/16th scale just pm me and i'll give you a deatiled list. thank you, Santiago aka" M.1/16th"
