FujimiLover Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 (edited) Hello. I dont' know if many of you know about this. But in the past when I wanted to paint a model black, I've noticed that white and gray primers tend to make the finish dull and ugly for some reason unknown. However, about a year ago I discovered an interesting primer designed specifically for black cars. It's called Black Primer and it's made by Citadel Colour. It comes in a large can so it lasts for several models. I tried it on a 1/28 scale Mini-Z car that I had back then, I cleaned it, prepped it, et'c, sprayed the black primer, gloss black, and clear coated it. And WOW what a finish! The black primer really truely helped alot. So if you guy's want a nice black finish, use black primer first! Picture of paint. The Crack-Can next to it is there to show you the size of the black primer can. This stuff works great! I'm sure you "professionals" out there know of better or different ways of getting a silky smooth finish, but this works great for me! Edited March 22, 2009 by FujimiLover
dwc43 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Thanks for posting. I've got a couple black cars that I am getting ready to airbrush. Know where you can get this stuff at? I don't remember seeing it around here in stores or parts houses.
FujimiLover Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 (edited) I think last time I looked for it, the LHS guy said it was under a new name. I'll check next time I'm down there. We have two Hobby Town's and one which I like better is unfortunetly much further down town than I like to go sometimes. They have all the good stuff that the closer shop doesn't have. Funny how that works isn't it? Edited March 22, 2009 by FujimiLover

mageckman Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 However, about a year ago I discovered an interesting primer designed specifically for black cars. It's called Black Primer and it's made by Citadel Colour. Actually, it wasn't designed specifically for black cars, it was designed for Citadel's line of wargaming figures and models. It is used as a base coat to help the paint stick to their metal figures and vehicles. It is to help with shading chainmail and armor and to make lighter colors darker. It helps with the shading. It makes for one less step in the painting process on those litle figures. I've used their white primer but not the black. The only problem I have had with it (besides the thickness) is it has a tendency to etch into plastic at times. So that is one thing to look for with this paint. Hope this helps. Mageckman
philo426 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I used gray primer on this Chevelle,Doesn't seem dull to me!
