Dingo Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 This one's for Zuk, it was built back in the 90's and follows an old landcruiser we had before that which was a different type of rig. Roof Rack Load Overall 3/4 front view Antenna on roof rack is a hypodermic needle & antenna on left fender is wire from an electronic resistor. Dingo
RodneyBad Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Thanks. I like it. Looks like it has already been there and back. The Dust is nice weathering 1:1s are nice. The thing with the hypodermic needle. Sharp point? Wouldn't the point be hard to cut off? Or do you use it just for the thin walled tubing of it? And the Big antenna, that for a HAM radio? I think it looks great for an Outback Traveler.
Dingo Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Zuk the hypodermic needle are cut using the cut off wheeel of a Dremmel, the sharp part is used to stick it into the plastic so no worries there if U'r careful to start with, and the big antenna is HF outback radio not Ham even though back then I was a Ham operator and enjoyed every minute of it. The dust weathering was done by just leaving it to sit on a shelf for a months. Dingo
jbwelda Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 nice rig dude! i take it you drive the 1:1 all over the outback? plenty of open space around there; its getting harder to find in america! heres my real one, you dont happen to know of any models (any scale, or diecast) of an FJ60 like this do you? the early days: with ARB bumper, 12k winch and rock sliders: the sharp-eyed might have noticed the fuel injected corvette insignia on front fender. theres a reason for that! in death valley, where i am leaving for tomorrow:
Nick F40 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Other than William here and Zuk, I'm a big fan of Landcruisers, I love em. You can't say anything about Australia without talking about a Landcruiser!
Dingo Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Ya right Nick Australia is two 4X4's the Landcruiser and the Nissan Patrol these 2 hold the market with the Landcruiser No.1 our 4by is a Patrol as we like the square chunky look of it and when we once had a borrowed Landcruiser it broke its back while crossing a rather deep rough creek crossing it was driven home but very slowly so Toyotas for us R rubbish and always will be. Dingo
Nick F40 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I just want to live in Australia A guy my dad works with said that when he went down, that's all he saw. I like Patrol's but the Landcruisers are just proven...bulletproof. I was rasied right. I guess since they are common over there there not as special My dad owned a 69 FJ40 and a 79 pickup and a 76 Celica, so the good Toyota's always have been my favorite.
Dingo Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 Yep Nick U'r right Landcruiser in Oz R the main thing in the bush, as U say they're bulletproof but the patrol holds its own and will go anywhere in Oz that the Landcruiser does it is almost a 50/50 ownership for bush rigs here but other 4by's R strating to cut into the market if U can call them 4x4's a lot of just soft roaders used as 4bees. We R hunting down a Range Rover V8 at the moment coz they're cheap and like the 2 others go anywhere as well. Dingo
jbwelda Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 i see range rovers broken down by the side of the road, the *freeway*, every day! land cruisers: choice of insurgents worldwide! will always get you safely out of the area even with a "broken back", whatever you meant by that! but yes those nissan patrols are pretty good too. they didnt bring them into the states very long i dont think; here they have xterras. a friend of mine has one he has bruted up a bit and it goes everywhere mine will...and so far ive not backed down from much in my tlc even though i dont like to abuse the equipment unless necessary. that means i dont go over that hill unless theres something i want to do over there! so no FJ60 models, thats what ive turned up too. no diecasts i know of either. shame.
Dingo Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 jbwelda we're going for a Rangie coz we've got an old Leyland P76 V8 motor in the backyard stoked to 5 liter and running on L.P.Gas (propane) that we'll drop into it, the orginak size of the P76 motor is 4.2 and it's an alloy engine, we did not do the work on it but a friend did so it's good.
