eriklane Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Hi there-newbie to model cars. I bought a 1970 Ford Mustang. It shows yellow with a black interior. When I painted the headliner black, I could see it through the exterior roof yellow. I removed the black. I primed the headliner with yellow. I tried a brush of black last night, and had to remove it-I can still see it. How to solve this? I was using black enamel for the headliner.
willimo Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 (edited) I like to use a silver as a light blocker. In this case, I would paint a silver between the primer and the black headliner. Usually, the "metallic" pigment in the silver paint is opaque enough to block light transfer. Edited April 12, 2024 by willimo 1
Bainford Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Are you using primer under your exterior paint? A good coat of primer will make for an opaque surface that should block interior colours from showing through to the exterior. Another method is to paint the entire inside of the body shell with flat black or primer to further create an opaque surface. As William mentioned above, silver is a good blocker, too. This eliminates any translucence of the plastic, making for a good, solid appearance of the exterior colours, especially helpful for yellow, orange, and red exterior colours.
