1972coronet Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Video footage from Chrysler's lesser-known Los Angeles (Maywood - City of Commerce these days) Assembly . It was situated at 5800 S. Eastern x Slauson, southeast corner - an M-E-L plant was across the street on the northwest corner. This plant closed in July 1971 after production ceased in spring ; two reasons are cited for its closure : 1.) Extensive damage from the Sylmar Earthquake on 9. Feb. 1971 2.) The plant couldn't facilitate double-stack rail shipments (trains actually entered/exited the plant on the southside of the plant) , which Chrysler was going to implement for the 1972 model year. After sitting abandoned, vandalised, and derelict for some time, the plant was demolished (I'm not sure as to what year). Enjoy ! 2
iamsuperdan Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Cool! Seeing those Belvederes in assembly reminds me of the footage from the Detroit plant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4koPfEQVo44
