I just picked up another one for my stash @ Hobby Lobby this afternoon. The AMT KW Alaskan Hauler. Now not sure what Kenworth's actual model number was for the truck. However neither here or there. Curious on others thoughts on color(s) for the truck. Do I go box art, or do I build it as a standard issue 1972(ish) W925? My mind works in mysterious ways, and this time is no different. Also would like some others experiences on their building this beast. Thank you in advance.

Just picked that one up myself and have the same dilemma. Wish I could find an updated hood for it. Be watching suggestions

Will have to wait to start building her a bit. Pollen season has arrived and if I wanted the cab to be Yellow I'd paint her that color. Also a question about the mirrors. For those who have built the W925/Alaskan Hauler can the Revell USA W900 mirrors be used in place of the AMT ones?

In looking at the box art I think the Rustoleum John Deere Green may do the trick as far as close enough to the shade shown on the tractor. Just would need to source a proper shade of Red that would work?

So after having this play over in my mind in what seems like forever over the weekend I am back to questioning what/how I want to build her. Since the Alaskan Hauler comes with all the parts to actually build it as a W925 I am at a bigger impasse. The following is what I am tossing around in my mind. The Watkins unit is easy, the Alaskan Hauler not so much. The AH questions I have are below.

  • Do I use the visor? Most pictures I have seen of the Hill & Hill units they did not.
  • How do I modify and remove the left side air cleaner part molded into the cab? An exacto knife then sand it down even?
  • Single or dual air horns?
  • Where the left exhaust stack goes are the two holes how do you remedy that? I figure putty would work, but I suck at puttying, sanding smooth.
  • The left side of the cab has a small hole to the left, and slightly above the vent near the door. I actually thought about mounting a luberfiner there as I saw a couple of pictures of a Hill & Hill unit with a painted luberfiner.

I'm sure I will have a billion more questions so apologizing in advance. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Jersee Jerry

If doing the AH (I think it's a W-923)  I've mostly seen the following:
• single air horn
• no visor
• single stack (passenger side)
• single air cleaner (passenger side)
• putty (or glue) in the holes for driver side stack.
• Driver side luberfiner
• extra gas tank, driver side
• some variation of green or red on radiator
