Ha! I can imagine Gene Bordinat spilling his G & T all over his powder blue polyester suit if he saw this baby being pulled in to the design studio in Dearborn! I never worked for Gene but I worked for his successor Jack Telnack who set up Ford Australia and led the design of those wild 70's Falcons. They shared the same design language with the American Torinos and Montegos and even had some touches of the big Mustang of '71. When he went back to Dearborn he was instrumental in delivering the first FOX Mustang and later the wildly successful Jelly Bean Taurus and the Aero Thunderbirds. Anyway, Jack probably would have liked the cleanliness of this coupe though I'm sure the monster wheels would have left him scratching his head about how they were going to turn it around to get it out of the rotunda...

Hi Sir!

Thank you for the generous comments.

I was a fan of the Telnack school of design, and to prove it, I bought an 85 Turbo Coupe, three Merkur XR4Ti, a Scorpio... all cars that I understand he was somehow involved in the design process of. A friend still has a Mk VIII LSC and a MK VIII.

The design leap between the 82 squarish Bird and the Aero Bird is monumental. Rounded edges, very slanted windshield, airplane doors, and a C-pillar shape to rival Mitchel's 67 Eldo (only less angular). I could go on...

I envy your tenure in this design team.

Regards,

CT

Another stunner Claude! I too love the color combo, although that engine compartment is particularly cool. Thank you for posting.

Thanks Emre!

I always had a soft spot for this body design, so, had to do it!
