FujimiLover Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Hello there. My Koenig Specials Competition has a very cool engine that is mostly silver with red accents. What silver rattle-can spray paint should I use to make a very nice engine? I've previously used just plain silver and brushed it on and it looked horrible. I would love to use that special chrome we talked about earlier, but it's way too expensive and I dont' ahve that kind of money for now. So, what silver or aluminum would you recommend for the engine? I've painted the chassis flat-black, but the chassis has the bottom half of the engine molded to it. Should I paint the rest of the engine parts flat black to start with as well? Some engine parts are molded in white, and some in grey.
Brendan Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 To let you know, a lot of times when Hasegawa, Fujimi and Aoshima (sp) kits call for silver, they're actually calling for flat aluminum. Most engine blocks would be a flat aluminum. I prefer Tamiya acrylics XF-16 for painting engine blocks.
FujimiLover Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Thank you, I'll look for flat-aluminum. I was also thinking about some of the paints used for WWI WWII airplanes that have that metalizer. I'm wondering if the Testarossa engine is aluminum?
FujimiLover Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Mr. Mike said: Tamiya Spray TS-30 Silver leaf . Three light coats. Got it today, thank you. Look's like it might be what I want for my 1/43 Honda Insight as well.
FujimiLover Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Thank you. I decided it's too bright and silvery for the Insight model. But, it's perfect for the engine. It look's like aluminum and sprays nicely ontop of the flat-black primer.
