Well, I don't know what has possessed me, but after 40 years building models without a single Mustang, somehow a second one found its way on my bench within just a couple of months.

This one is not going to undergo quite the extreme transformation of my other one, which by the way I still have not decided what to call, but it's going to be pretty radical. To make things even more interesting, I have decided that it will be dedicated to my wife, so that adds another twist. Or two. She's a foxy lady, so it was only appropriate to base it on a Fox body Mustang. To be exact, on the latest Revell '90 Mustang XL Drag kit, which is readily available in Hobby Lobby and can be purchased at a 40% discount every other week. This been "her car" determined the colors, which would have to be based on her two favorites - purple and pink. Pretty extreme, I know. And to match that extreme combo, the car would have to be equally wild. Throw a wide body in and some cool decals representing my wife's tastes and we have the recipe for a cool tuner or perhaps time attack machine.

I haven't quite figured out everything yet, namely the motor and the interior, but I think that this kit, the wide body bits I 3D printed and the Tamiya Purple metallic paint I had laying around are pretty good start.

Sorry I have skipped taking pictures of all the steps, but this is the body with the wider fenders and part of the front bumper already on. It was quite a bit of body work, followed by Tamiya grey primer and topped off with Tamiya Purple metallic from their RC range. The spray can was decanted and then shot through my airbrush.

Just the same Revell kit or one with the same wide body kit?

I would love to see how you are doing yours. Share it on here.

Here is the custom hood I made for it complete with see through grilles and all. (the center grille is a separate piece that is not in the picture) I added carbon fiber to the "hump". This car will have a serious amount of carbon details, altho not quite as much as the other Mustang.

!! WARNING !!

Now for this next picture you may want to put your sunglasses on. ?

As I said in the very first comment, this car is a "tribute to the wifey" and is going to use her favorite colors and products. So pink was a must have, altho this one is a little on the extreme side. But then again, the whole car is, so... The color is Tamiya Fluorescent Pink, which comes in a spray can in their RC range. This one was not laying around the garage, but was purchased specifically for this project. As an accent color in typical ricer style it will be found on the wheels, wings, grilles, spoilers etc.. I am still contemplating about covering the rear window with a "hip-again-blast-from-the-past" shade, which would be in the same blinding pink.

Its the same Revell kit, I'm not doing the wide body version BUT I am suping it up a little. I'll start a WIP on it here soon.

The last couple of weeks have been quite hectic at my house. My garage got flooded and a lot of boxes got soaked up. Many of them with models in them. The models are fine but the decals are toast on many of them. Worse, I had to deal with preventing them from getting moldy.

To add to all that my kid is about to go off to college, which put my wife in "a mood", which...well...I'm not even going to go there... LOL!

Orientation at his college, few dumpster fire situations at my work, stuff he needs for his dorm and him signing for a program which would mean he has to move in a week early (and moves the first payment due date forward) without telling us, has limited my bench time somewhat.

However I still did quite a bit a progress on both my Mustangs, but I just have not taken much pictures.

For starters I began work on the interior. I printed some cool modular seats, which are in tune with the carbon shell bare bones seats that all the rage in pro touring builds I see at the big shows. I had them sanded, primed and painted gloss black. I am no losing my mind trying to cover them in carbon decal, just so you can't see it at all in the interior. I need the black to cure well before I paint all the cushions light grey.

The interior panels and the dash were painted with a greyish blue from SEM (best primer ever ?) which looked very in line with the ugly interiors of the '80s LOL. The door handles and the inlaid panels were then masked with Liquid Mask and will be painted light grey, which is what I see the most when checking out Fox Bodies online.

This model has morphed into something different somewhere along the way and picked up few threads related to both my family and my kid's generation. One of those things are stickers. As I had mentioned elsewhere, my kid end up with an ex Metro Police Impala as his first car. One of the coolest things about that car was the rear seat. Or should I say the lack there of. His car has an "arrest me" molded plastic seat and all rubber floors. Basically you can hose the entire interior and just wipe it. He loves the rear seat and I gave him the idea that he can cover it with stickers. He loves stickers and has been collecting hundreds of them from anywhere from restaurants and breweries to car shows and skateboard shops. He has almost completely covered it and everyone who's seen it, thinks its cool.

So my kid's car and his rear seat served as an inspiration for the interior in my Mustang Model. Which made me take a swing at his generation, who like to slap meaningless stickers on anything. My model does not have a rear seat, but the stripped down panel was covered with about 120 or so stickers from decal sheets from a variety of kits and some of them custom made. I think if represents the character of my kid's rear seat pretty good. It took me the better part of an afternoon, but I like it.

The car will be also covered in a lot of stickers, most representing some my wife's favorite brands like DC Shoes and Monster Energy. Of course it will have some  absolutely meaningless stickers and some sponsor decals. It is kinda race car, kinda show car, kinda drift car, kinda "hooked up daily driver". And I think it earned it's nickname "STICKERS".

Looking great! I love the stickers on the seat!

Thank you. This model is having so many nods to the past of my family, that it is just crazy.

Yeah I bet! I've had to do a TON of mods on my fox to look like my dad's old car.

I see that. I think you are doing a fantastic job. Fox bodies are one of those cars that bone stock are nothing really to look twice at. But then with just a little bit of effort they can looks really cool or total duds. Your dad's car looks cool. Just the right amount of mods here and there to have a really slick well put together look.

Mine is a study in excess while having fun while paying homage to some memories.

Man I appreciate it! I'll have another update soon.

I love the Pink! It looks so 'typical' of certain cars I used to see. And I have to say, I think the Seat/Stickers move on both of your parts is very Cool! Your Son, has a good idea.

Thank you.
that pink will be tied up throughout the car. I have already done that, but just have to find the time to take pictures. As I have mentioned, everything on this build is associated with one thing or another from memories in my family.
So, some 20 or so years ago we were with my wife out partying in Aspen, CO. The last bus home, affectionately nicknamed by the locals “the vomit comet” was at 2:15am. My wife had a couple drinks too many that night, just enough to make her silly. She had a pink and black sweatshirt almost as bright as this pink and was wearing it as a cape hanging on it hoodie almost covering her eyes. When getting on the bus she found it appropriate to make her case to the bus driver that she is “The Pink Dart Vader”. LOL. This has been the butt of jokes amongst friends and family ever since and it will probably never end. So, “obnoxious pink” absolutely had to be present on the car. ?

Made some progress on this one.

Applied a variety of custom made decals and clear coat. Some carbon fiber here, some sponsors there... This is not a race car, but rather over the top drift/showoff tuner. Main theme - over the top obnoxious to the point of being cool. Like a puppy that's so ugly it's cute. The clear still needs to be sanded and buffed and most of the black areas still need to receive carbon fiber decals. Hopefully I can do all that this weekend and spray a final coat of clear.

Working on the interior.

he center console was modified in couple of ways, eliminating the armrest and filling in the slot for the handbrake.

Interior tub received some flocking, roll cage was installed.

Seat cushions were painted. They still need some touching up.

KfAWZx.jpg

Interior mocked up. It still needs some touch ups and all the small details, like pedals, shifter, handbrake and I am trying to figure out what do I want to do with the seatbelts.

ZHH3yg.jpg

I also started on the engine. It is the supercharged one from Revell's Super Stallion Mustang. It will fit in there, but the air intake tubes would have to be completely redone.
