Nick F40 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvyawSTUHU8 The first stage I have followed this for a couple years now, the IRC, Intercontinental Rally Challenge http://www.ircseries.com/html/ With WRC being at a bad time, with teams pulling out, it still is the best to watch and definetly top tear but with only Citroen and Ford Europe competing it is kind of limited and not much competition, not like old times for sure. Money is also being thought about and now it's like what I saw in a magazing the other day, soon it's going to be a bunch of rich blokes taking a sunday drive in the forest and driving the car aimlessly. We need the times of Group B and A and C and RAC back! The IRC is the new generation and drivers and they start at Monaco! This goes along with the S2000 car rules which are more competitive and more manufactures are involved, which since the cars are modified slightly from stock it gets good with competition and with a slew of drivers coming along I think it will become big. More competition between drivers, cars you got, Abarth, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, one of my favorites, Skoda and VW, to name most and there are three tire manufactures in it, I think this is the most competitive motorsport. Since these aren't neccessarily factory company's it is less money and more competition. It just seems better in pretty much every way than WRC. FIA was even looking at maybe changing the WR cars from an in between of Group N and S2000. Some of the IRC cars aren't AWD and turbo so it helps for new drivers. I'm really excited but thanks to SPEED i'll be looking on the Internet. I definetly want to compete, Rally America is doing so great in the US, and am aiming for that but this is great for rally. The problem with some in America is no real exposure, other than SCCA and NASA Rallycross, which I want to do, we only have Rally America, over there kids are rallying at age 13!!!
B_rad88 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 i like the little kei class rally racing! talk about fun to watch toy cars race!
Nick F40 Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 That's awsome! It's like the 24 Hours of LeMons, except on dirt. One of my favorite magazines too, which issue was that? Where is it being taken place?
Willy Survive Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Very cool stuff Nick. Are you serious about rallying? And what are you planning on driving? Citroen and Ford Europe are the only manufacturers competeing in WRC this year? I knew Subaru pulled out but I had no idea about Peugot and Mitsubishi? Crazy man I hope it comes back strong but it does seem pretty "wine and cheese" for the moment.
PatRedmond Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 WRC is struggling in '09, but the S2000 rules in '10 will help. IRC is great!
Nick F40 Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Yeah i'm serious, I would like to get started. I sure won't have anything that will compete with the WR cars but I wouldn't mind an 80-90's Audi, maybe VW, E30, Toyota, etc... WRC is struggling in '09, but the S2000 rules in '10 will help. IRC is great! yeah I know, they are finally realizing it and I can not wait, it ought to be awsome and it will allow people like me who would be starting out. It is great, I try to watch all that I can since SPEED blows......
