larman Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 I recently bought a large parts lot of engines and there are a few things I can't identify. First is the engine with the yellow block. I realize it is a Pontiac V8 with 3x2 intake, but I have never seen those valve covers before. They have vertical ridges and vaguely look similar to Y-block Ford/ MEL units, except for the breather caps. Also, it has a weird transmission bell housing. There is no transmission and it almost looks like it went into the model without one. Custom engine from an early AMT Tempest or Lemans maybe? It has a hole in the block like the old annuals do. The next items are the Edelbrock valve covers. They are big, possibly 1/20 scale, and are plated. There is red plastic showing through. I thought maybe they are big block Chevy, but I test fit them on a Monogram 1/24 Chevelle 454 block and they are a lot longer than the heads. There is a pic for reference. Any help appreciated!
larman Posted August 3, 2024 Author Posted August 3, 2024 (edited) I have solved the mysteries of these items! The yellow engine is from the Amt '63 Pontiac Tempest and those valve covers are actually the custom ones from that kit. Never had one, so I had no idea. The Edelbrock valve covers are from the MPC 1/20 Chuck Wagon or Popcorn Wagon show rod. Again, I have never dealt with either of those kits in 45+ years of being in this hobby, so it would make sense why I was stumped. A little internet sleuthing and it all makes sense now!
