They suck air through to cool to keep from overheating. 9 out of 10 times if you take it apart clean and oil the bearings it'll be fine. The only other thing would be if it burned a wire into.

RodBurNeR Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Tom, is it a commercial booth or ? You can pick up new motors fairly cheap , depends on the size....probably not that big huh? Good luck with it, I would hate to see ya stuck not building because of it.

RodBurNeR Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I got it from harbor freight while back ahh ok a "chicago" brand? I have a feeling the bearings froze up. You might get a replacement from them pretty cheap.

Lyle Willits Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I guess I'm lucky. All the motors in my spray cans seem to be working fine.

Just spent the last hr taking apart cleanning and putting together .Now get this worked the hooked it back with the booth pluged it in and @##$ thing not working I give up! OK a couple of questions for ya. Did you hook power to it while it was out and if so did it work then ? If it worked while out then for some reason it's not getting power to it when installed. which means you'll have to check the wire from the motor back to the plug and if there's a switch check it. If you have a multi-meter check each wire to see if it's not broken or burned into. If it didn't run while out, then it probably has a burned or broken wire in the motor. In that case you'll have to replace the motor.
Tom Kren Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 ok got it working for a bit what happens is it runs but not full speed then slows down and stops and kust hums then cant get it back running
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 ok got it working for a bit what happens is it runs but not full speed then slows down and stops and kust hums then cant get it back running Sounds like you need to take it back apart and finish cleaning it out. If it's not coming up to speed it's still bound up. The reason it is shutting off is the thermal protector in it. If it gets too hot it'll shut down and won't start again till it cools off. You might also try washing the bearings out w/ lacquer thinner till it spins free and re-oil them.

MR BIGGS Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) I got it from harbor freight while back Go down to Home depot and pick up one of those Mexicans standing out side of the place, have him stand next to you with the fan in his hand till you finish your paint job. Then give him a sandwich and send him on his marry way. I went down to GRAINGER and picked up one of those industrial floor dryers for a decent price. Been using it for years and never had a problem. I think you motor or the brushes might be out my brother. See you tomorrow night my Friend. Edited April 16, 2009 by MR BIGGS

I use an industrial rated "Squirrel Cage" motor from GRAINGERS and had it fo nearly 10 years and IT'S still "SQUIRRELIN' .
