Just ordered two cans of Revell chrome spray! Should be here by the weekend! (25€ for two bottles)

Have to sand and primer first anyway!

Besides that I have to print the rims and other parts which will be chromed too.

Unfortunately my printer left me standing in the rain again. Seems the extruder hast to be exchanged. Also ordered that. Should arrive tomorrow!

Then more progress!

Here some pics of my Last build where you can see the nice chrome effect.

Fuel tanks, stacks, rims, quarter fenders, grille, mirrors, bumper and a few other smaller parts are coated with chrome spray.

Underneath is primer and gloss black.

No clear coat this time. Luckily I tried it out on a sample I painted with these parts! Even after total curing, means no fingerprints, the shiny Chrome surface turned flat and looked like normal silver paint. And that was a non solvent water based clear coat!

Since I couldn't do anything for a while due to a printer strike I began designing the trailer!

Beginning with my K123 I began putting the parts together virtually to see if everything fits!

What you see here is not the final version but an idea of what it will probably look like.

Don't be distracted by the peripheric lines and stuff. That can't be erased when you put the drawings together!

Enjoy:

Thanks guys! I appreciate it! ?

Now I have to get the printer going again. It seems it's not just the extruder making problems! Today after work I'll take it apart and have a look hoping to be printing again this weekend!

Another printer problem caused a break.

A bundle of old filament which must have been unseen underneath the printing bed caused a blockage in the drive belt and ruined the last print job.

I got fixed and finally the printing can go on.

New pics will be posted when this job is through!

Took a few pics of the last successful prints! Didn't want to keep you waiting for so long! ?

This is the rear of the truck (the same one will be used for the trailer).

The fenders for the truck are from the disassembled Volvo F12. They'll be painted blue like the truck!

These are going to be the support brackets of the tank on the truck.

JM…….. I read your posts saying that the guys detail and do things that you find amazing……. Buddy, don’t sell yourself short, your builds have a LOT going on , far more than anything I  do or can do….. first off, once you have a vision, you usually start from scratch! THEN you spend hours designing on the computer….. then print what you need from scratch THEN assemble your creation! Your design work, computer skills and modelling skills are to be well and truly to be well admired , my friend…. You are right up there as one to really watch and follow with great ideas and execution .

Thanks very much my friend!

I might have skills in designing that others don't have but a lot of you guys have detailing skills I can just dream of.

I mean look at your Hayes engine for example or the wiring and plumbing of complete chassis and engines some of you have done!

We all have skills of some kind but not in everything. I'm always amazed of what you guys do and I try to learn and yes, I admit it, I also "steal" ideas like the the black gloss underneath the chrome spray and stuff like that! The same I'm happy (and a bit proud too) when I hear that guys with such modeling skills as you, Jeff, Steve, Gary, Brian, ... make compliments on my work.

I really appreciate that. Thanks all together!

It's fun being here and I really feel at home!

Oh, by the way, when my printer makes me freak out cause it doesn't do what it's supposed to, I sometimes envy you guys. You have all your parts on the bench and don't have to wait for things to finish printing.

That's one of the disadvantages of printing.

Still I don't wanna miss it! ?

No, we go online shopping to find what we want and hope it fits/works, then wait many days for delivery. Oh we spend too much money on this stuff we gotta have. And we buy extra because we might need it on another build. You just sit down and make what you want.

OK, OK, I get it! ?

Printing isn't exactly free either. The filament costs, so do the spare parts for the printer. But as I understand it, we all have our costs, we all wait during the process but at the end we all get what we want.

The most important thing is, we build! ?

The LCD screen went out on mine, and I had to send to China for a replacement! So I’m waiting for days if not weeks before I can print again. Just like waiting for some aftermarket parts or something I ordered online- similar frustration!

Oh, I know the feeling!

I had ordered the heating element and the extruder at the manufacturer and waited weeks till I finally got the message that both are not deliverable at the time! ?

Then I ordered at Amazon and got it after two days.

The filament I ordered there wasn't very good though even though it was the original product. The foil it was shrunk in was torn and so the filament had drawn humidity.

I had to put it into the filament dryer for two days till it was processable!

The "Sky Walk" is finished!

Side ladders are also printed but I have to be careful removing the Support structure! One ladder broke already but I can fix it.

Also the support brackets for the pumping hoses are finished as well as the spare wheel holder.

I also designed and printed a bracket for the chassis end to mount the hitch.

Just started the print of the tank end covers. Will take till tomorrow!

Hope I can do some primering by tuesday or wednesday!

It all still needs work before final assembly!

JM…. Your post is exactly what I was referring to when I was saying about the engineering and design stuff you are doing …. I wish I had those skills , really cool stuff and like Gary’s resto mod, the sky is the limit for you too. I LOVE your tanker, it has potential for all sorts of modifications… I’m enjoying watching this come together, keep on it pal.

Thought I'd post some virtual parts cause they show the detail better.

This is the bracket I made for the hitch:

I made it fit to the end of the truck chassis! It fit perfectly, so did the hitch but I was so anxious to get the hitch on that I didn't notice it was a bit too short. Oops!

I'll have to try and remove it or cut it off and lengthen it.
