TopherMcGinnis Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 I stopped by Mason's Hot Rod & Hobbies and picked up a flyer for this show.
catpack68 Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 I’m planning on going to this show if nothing comes up.
TarheelRick Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Got my table reserved, so all you who are coming bring lots of money.
TopherMcGinnis Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 This will be my 1st show-attendee/participant. What's the best way to display a model? Are there rules? Dos/Dont's?
kensar Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Fill out the paperwork and the registration people will help you decide what class to put the models in. Most of the 'rules' define what kind of model goes in what class. This will also designate what table to display the model on. Most models are simply put on the table with the identifying slip of paper under it. This leaves room for other models, which can be needed if a table is full of models already. Some models are displayed with small bases, as well. Just be aware of how much room you are taking to be considerate of other modelers that also want to display. Other models, like dioramas, are on large bases and they usually have their own table. Usually, the builder's name is not displayed in order to discourage judging bias, but this does happen occasionally. The next task for you is to walk around and check out the other models and be in awe. After that, a trip to the vendor's tables is in order because you can't go home with any money. At the end of the show, the awards are announced and everyone packs up. You other guys can chime in if I left something out. 1
TarheelRick Posted January 14 Posted January 14 More than likely they will also run a raffle for kits, parts, and other stuff. The money made at the raffle goes to the club to help toward expenses, so save a couple bucks for tickets. Who knows you may win a kit. I will be there with a vendor table. Will be wearing a USAF hat, so drop by and say hello. 1

I'll make it a point to stop by & introduce myself, since we keep running in the same circles, Lol. I won't be vending at this show (waiting for Salisbury for that fun).
TarheelRick Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Glad you mentioned Salisbury, I had forgotten it is coming up next month. Could you PM me the vendor information, please.
kensar Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Does anyone have a flyer or more info on this Salisbury show?
TarheelRick Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Salisbury is not a show it is strictly a swap meet, and a fairly extensive one. It is usually held in February.
thatz4u Posted January 15 Posted January 15 take photos please...I was going, then life got in the way 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 I'll be there with 4 models on display. Just yell out TOPHER! I'll answer 1

The tables were so close together and close to the walls it was difficult for people to get to the tables. If one person stopped to look at a selection it would often block the aisleway. I realize the more vendors there are the more revenue the club can make on table rental, however there is the ability for the vendors to conduct business that is also important. Even with the tight area I had a pretty good time. After cost of room, table, etc., I made a few bucks, even won a model at the raffle. Didn't get much time to look at the models, although I did make a quick run through and saw Topher's display - the Aero Coupe caught my attention.

Like I said, it was my 1st time-I was having a blast. Yeah, it was kinda tight in there. Lighting was a little lacking too. No one seemed to get upset that I saw. Looks to me like it could have been in a space twice the size it was in. 1

kensar Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I had a good time at the show. Met TarheelRick also. This was the first time this venue was used and I hope some improvements can be implemented for next year's show. The club putting on the show has already secured the venue for next year. I saw Topher's builds - very nice. I'm more of a road race guy but unusual subjects catch my eye - like my Ford Model T snowmobile. Looking forward to next year's show. 1
