rediscovering old skills

Jürgen sorry I missed your post and yes it is. You have come a long way over the years like many others here on growing your skill set in different areas. Sometimes scratch building can be easier than sitting down with a outdated Model kit that has fit issues.

You're quite right! Scratch building can really get your phantasy moving!

The R.D. tank trailer ist scratch built and I'm very proud of it!

You can be proud of your builds too! They're really amazing!

Thanks to Jürgen for his inspiration of his Tanker Build to finally get this build I’ve been wanting to do for several years on the bench. I needed a good size project to soak up the winter months as my current 1/43 scale projects are winding down and I think I found it. I’ll be using a fresh 1/43 AMT Peterbilt kit converting it into a 289 with some modifications. The Truck and Doubles will be in Lee & Eastes Tank lines. I sourced the decals over 25 years ago from Ken Goudy now Graphics on demand. Years after I purchased them I copied them on water slide decal paper.

The tanker bodies I got in a trade years ago from P&P resin and the Dolly I bought from Don Mills. The suspension and ladders are from the new Atlantis White Tanker and Revell kit. The wheels, tires, air tanks, and dollies are from my 1/43 AMT parts box I have and as I go along I’ll be adding more aftermarket details. Hope you ride along and “Please No Smoking”😂.

Like all the guys are saying, Lee this is a really cool build and will really be an eye catcher when all decalled up. Had no idea L&E had been here for over 100 years. Thats really interesting …… up here in the great white north , back in the day this combination of tractor and trailers were called an ‘A’ train ,5th wheel, pintle, 5th wheel with both trailers , Lead and Pup the same length , this gave way of course to the B train and now today the Super B’s. And then the set up with a long Lead and a short pup was known as a ‘C’ train.

Thanks for stopping by. That’s pretty neat you worked there. This might be a fictitious Rig I know they have Truck and Pup combos starting in the 1930s till present day but this combination I don’t know I can’t find anything on the web if they did. I know some western companies ran this type of set up but not for certain if they did so do you know if they did or didn’t run these I would appreciate it.

Lee and Eastes for all the years that I have seen them  here in the Seattle area never saw them run doubles like you are building.  The proper nane for the set up they run is called truck and trailer. They do run some semi trucks but the majority are truck and trailers. I wished I had taken pictures then but I am sure you know how that goes, I`ll do it later.

Thanks for the info. I kinda figured they didn’t but I’ll probably just keep it like it is for now. Here in Midwest we called them Truck & Pup set up.

I’m hoping it will Jeff. Although I’m thinking they never ran this set up I was going to change it and go a different route but I think I’ll just keep it the was it is. It may be a fictitious build but I’m having fun with it.

A “B” train would be a cool build in this scale I like those rigs. Thanks again for you comments.

FUN , is the main objective

Exactly and I need a fun build at the moment where I can kick back and relax and enjoy building Trucks like I used too without the rivet counters looking over my shoulder telling me how wrong my builds are. That’s the best thing about this place I like.
