kjohan Posted January 25 Posted January 25 The Fnnish driver Leo Kinnunen in this race, shared car with Pedro Rodriguez, car no 40 , a very short and very light Porsche 908 spyder. That is a 8 cyl 3 litr car. When the last lap was coming up, Pedro, certainly a very fast guy, was slightly behind. Leo K took over for this last lap, and made a drive outside of all known (and some unknown) limits. The gap was to large, he and Pedro came in 3rd . But Leo's record breaking lap time stands to this day. Leo was one of the drivers, who mastered and, not the least, dared to drive the larger 917 to its full potential. Winning an European sports car championship several years in a row. Before his ventures above, Leo in the late 60' also did some rallying, sometimes with a Saab V4. Ok, more moderate power, ca 145 - 160 hp depending on class and tuning. But remember: driving a rally car flat out in the Finnish rallys in those days on snow, ice and gravel and any combination thereof, was certainly not for those faint of heart. One brave driver, Leo K 1
