Long ago I used the CHP site to reify information on models of cars used thru the years. As a former California resident, I found it interesting that in the quarter century since leaving the state they had even used Volvos at one time. They offered pictures of the many different vehicles used thru the years and they clearly showed the different ways that some were painted depending on their use in the fleet.
johnyrotten Posted January 28 Posted January 28 You might be in for some fun work, kawasaki didn't really "keep" paint codes, and being a government vehicle the were most likely specifically ordered. Your best bet like stated above is research that site, and look up actual surviving bikes. The kz1000 is a very popular platform, so you'll have some luck.

espo Posted January 31 Posted January 31 23 hours ago, bummer666 said: where would i find that? and thank you There are several sources of OEM paint colors mostly designed for use with an Air Brush. A couple of spray can options, Model Master #28132 is supposed to be a match for the original Ford Wimbeldon White. The problem is finding it now since Rust-Oleum has taken over the ownership. The other, and most easily found, would be Tamiya TS-26 Pure White.

bummer666 Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago Hello once again forum thank you to all members who have helped me on getting correct paint for my chp motorcycle project! I'm in need of some more color of paint suggestions for same project and some help on how to do effects on painting please. ok first can someone please tell me what color paint I need for sprocket? and how do I paint chain, so it looks real? I also can use some tips and expertise on how to do inlay effect on the motorcycle heads, carbs, and Kawasaki name on the case. I'm including photos of what I'm needing help with. thank you all in advance for your help and tips!
shoeman Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I think the black between the fins on the head and block is just shadow. Chanis and sprockets probably got changed often. Chains were typically steel grey back then. Sprockets the same although I do recall some cheaper replacement parts having a slight yellow/gold tint. I do not think factory parts would have been like that though. Carbs typically had no paint on them, but the Police version of that bike stayed in production long after the air-cooled bikes were discontinued and carb types varied. The photos you show are not the later CV type. I owned a 77 KZ1000 for over 20 years and many riding pals had the big Zeds too. 1
johnyrotten Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Like Geoff said, the block and head are most likely shadow, though I've seen many engines painted up similar in the real world. Lots of rattle can warriors. The sprocket color could probably be mimicked with a zinc chromate type metallic finish. Check out alclad or any of the other metal finish type systems. A good effect or the chain can be achieved with washes and dry brushing an oily black over silver or steel Edited 5 hours ago by johnyrotten
