cifenet Posted February 26 Posted February 26 (edited) If you can even out that hood surface nicely, I bet the result is going to be superb! Edited February 26 by cifenet 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 26 Author Posted February 26 That's already happened! 👍 I puttied it on top. The sides are sanded. I'll see what it looks like when it's primered. Maybe a bit of rework. I also printed the sleeper in single pieces lying down to avoid the printing lines. It should look better than previous builds!
Jürgen M. Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Tried a mock-up of chassis and cab with hood. Still looks a bit shaky but I need a few more parts printed to stabilize it! 2
Jürgen M. Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 The sleeper is almost complete! I printed specially shaped parts to guarantee perfect fit! Now just the roof is missing. 3
cifenet Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Looking very good! I like how you added the support "L" bracket on sleeper too. 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Air cleaners are attached: I also decided to make a headache rack! I printed it in one piece, including the tool box! 3
Biggu Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Wow. You are really moving fast with this one. Love the way the air cleaners turned out, they look great as does the headache rack. Good job bud.
Jürgen M. Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Thanks Jeff! The printing goes quickly! So does the designing! Now the painting will begin. That's what takes time! 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 (edited) This is the V8 I designed. I used the instruction sheet of the Amt GMC General and tried to reproduce the parts shown there mixed with attributes of similar looking engines found on pics in the internet. I didn't go too far into detail and I think I'll leave the plumbing, at least most of it. Hope you like it anyway! The gear box in the drawings I took over from the Marmon Herrington to make it complete but I'll probably use a different one! I designed all engines and gear boxes so they would fit together in any combination I choose! Edited March 1 by Jürgen M. 2
Jürgen M. Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 The sun visor fits perfectly: Mocked up again with sun visor and headache rack! 3
BK9300 Posted March 1 Posted March 1 You’re making significant changes to the way you design and print out your parts. It shows up in the improving quality of the finished parts. Well done, Jürgen! 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Thank you! Nice of you to say that! I wasn't aware that it shows! 1
Rockford Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Great work Jürgen, as usual. Like your V8 too. You're refining this process with every project. You're also building a great resource of chassis components etc... that you can call in for future projects, as you have with this. I think we're watching our future being written. 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Thank you Steve! If there was a broader offer of kits concerning variety of models I probably would never have started to design and print. It does make me kind of sad on the one hand that not everyone has the possibility to make any model he or she likes but on the other hand, when I see what you guys make of the existing models plus fabulous scratch building skills I think the small range of kits does support the builders fantasy. 1
Gary Chastain Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Wow Jurgen, your builds make me smile, love where this is going. 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Got the cab and sleeper ready for primer! I used a so called "raft" from printing which I cut to size to mask the window gaps. That way I don't need so much tape! Then I used double sided tape to hold the cab and sleeper rooves so they don't get blown off by the air gun! 2
Jürgen M. Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 (edited) The V8 is just about ready to be installed! First I have to paint the chassis though! Edited March 2 by Jürgen M. 2
Jürgen M. Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 I finally got to painting the chassis: The rims are also painted. Mocked up to see how it looks! I'm satisfied! Next will be primering the cab and sleeper! I puttied the cab between sleeper and roof so I have to sand a bit more before putting the primer on. The quarter fenders will probably be chromed as well as the fuel tanks and the grille. If you're wondering why the hubs of the first drive axle are sticking further out than the others, simple explanation: I used the wheels that I had originally printed for the Marmon. For that the hubs were too long so I had changed them and printed them again. Then the wheels turned out to be too big for the Marmon so I used the smaller Amt round 1 tires with smaller rims leaving the larger rims in the box for further projects. Like this one! So I used the four doubles with the shorter hubs and two with the longer ones. I thought why not? Some trucks have different rims on each axle so why not have different hubs? Now I've talked enough. Thanks for listening! 😊 2
Jürgen M. Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 Thanks Jeff! By the way, the plate on the chassis is just a guarantee that the hood will fit (hopefully) gapless to the cab! Looks a bit like a Revell level 3 kit but it won't be visible later! 1
BK9300 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 (edited) Apologies if I keep repeating myself, but everything always comes together better once primer/paint is on the frame - like your progress, Jürgen! Edited March 5 by BK9300 1
cifenet Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Good progress, you got something special and unique going here. That tri-axle is looking fantastic~ 1
RoninUtah Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Hey Jürgen, I don’t know how I missed this thread, but I’m blown away! As others have said, your skills in both designing and printing keep getting better and better. Looking at your work, it makes me think that maybe I should be working with PLA instead of resin! Especially now that my printer has been down for weeks due to a failed LCD screen! 1
